[Desktop] Playback issues on Windows 7

Hey folks,

We've been seeing reports of users who are experiencing issues with the Spotify desktop app on Windows 7.

First off, could you try reinstalling the app, making sure to remove any Spotify app data in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Spotify?

If that doesn't work, we'd like you to provide us with the following info:

  • your country
  • the exact Spotify version you're running
  • a description of the behaviour of the app, including any errors
  • any other info or workarounds you think are relevant to the issue

Once we have that, we'll take a closer look.

Thanks - keep us posted!

Hi everyone,

We really appreciate your reporting this and providing us all the relevant info.

We've passed all your details on to our developers, but this seems to be affecting specific devices or setups and we're unable to find a solution remotely. We're continuously improving the app and optimizing it, so we recommend keeping an eye out for future updates to the app, but can't guarantee this will fix the issue.

For now, we suggest you try checking your hosts files and if that doesn't help you could consider using our web player.

Sorry we don't have any better news for you at this point. Thank you for understanding.

Since I don't know if I should go somewhere else to provide this information, I'll just comment on this post.

  • Version installed: 1.1.22.633.g1bab253a (Brazil)

The basic gist of the problem is that whenever the app receives an input (Any kind), it stops responding to further attempts of use; be it to play a song, access a playlist or even exit the app (it minimizes to the taskbar but doesn't close the problem, you must force close it from the taskmanager).

Although, sometimes, it would work perfectly fine and would continue to do so even after rebooting the system. But it is an inconsistent fix and would, most of the time, present this bug (although rare, this could be fixed by playing a song from a playlist or playing from the mobile app first, and then transferring to the desktop one).

Thank you for looking into this,

Seph

Good afternoon,

First of all, what was already done:

- fully program and data uninstall/ re-install

- O.S update (win7)

What ive noticed is that some previous program version (1.1.20.510.g7d28aaaa) downloaded by the following link works fine!

link - http://download.spotify.com/SpotifyFullSetup.exe

However once you close the app and re-open it, it will automatically download and install the latest version ( 1.1.22.633) that does not work at all. The program will open normally but does not reproduces any song.

Hello,

My situation is the very same of douglasaugsten.
I've already fully uninstalled the Spotify several times, delete all data. I am using Windows 7, my Spotify version is the last one. I download it an hour ago directly on your official website.

And I just can't play any song on the player of Spotify.  I already tried this procedure: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Windows/Spotify-Won-t-Play-Some-Songs/m-p/4668914#M70915

But I didn't even find the Spotify stuff "0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com" in any line code of the "host" file.

I've already tried everything! Nothing solved the problem. Please, help us.

Hi,

Did the full uninstall (deleting any file remaining) and reinstalled.
Country: Brazil

Version:1.1.22.633.g1bab253a

Sometimes it plays one song, sometimes not even that, the playlists doesn't load and after closing the app still is running (need to go to task manager and force stop the 2 main processes trees).

It doesn't appear any error message from spotify just that windows 7 (the app is still running) if you just close the program without ending process tree.

Hello!

I've tried the full uninstall, but it didn't work.

  • Country: Brazil
  • Spotify version: 1.1.22.633.g1bab253a
  • A description of the behaviour of the app, including any errors: Basically, the same as mentioned above by other users. When I hit the "play" button, the song does not play and the app becomes unusable. For example, "home", "browse", "made for you", "settings" and other options just show a black screen. Moreover, when I close the app, it still keeps running in the taskmanager.
  • Any other info or workarounds you think are relevant to the issue: This issue definitely started after that update (1.1.22.633.g1bab253a).

I hope you guys get it fixed.

Thanks!

BOM DIA POVO DO WINDOWS 7!

well, I replied this with some information I judge interesting to the case, but my answer just desappeard

1.1.22.633.g1bab253a Brazil Windows 7

The problem: it does not reproduce tracks at all

Reinstalation: does not work (just once, it worked to me, I think)

Other information: I am able to fix it momentaneously when I change spotify from its original folder/directory to another one, and it can be anyone of them, even the desktop. It works and make de program run normally, but stop working when the OS is restarted, so I need to change it to another folder again till another restart.

  • a description of the behaviour of the app, including any errors: When I try to play a song it doesn't play, and spotify stops responding correctly.
  • any other info or workarounds you think are relevant to the issue: I'm on Windows 7, and this did not happen on previous versions of spotify, it only happens on the current one. I hope there's a fix soon, cause I simply can't play any song.
