[Desktop] Scroll position not saved when navigating through pages

Hey folks,

We're receiving reports from users that navigating back and forth through the desktop app no longer returns them to the point on the page they were previously on. If they're halfway down a page and try navigating forward a page, returning to the previous page will put them to the top of the page instead of the point they were at.

If you’re experiencing this issue, make sure to add your +VOTE and follow the instructions in the Status Update below.

Thanks!

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your updates and for your patience while we looked into this issue!

We can confirm that our teams have rolled out a fix to improve the experience reported. Make sure your app is updated to the latest version.

Note that any click on a link or side menu item is consider a 'forward' navigation in the client and the scroll position will not be restored in that case. We only restore scroll position when navigating 'backward' using the navigation buttons at the top or a keyboard shortcut.

Sometimes I feel like the developers don't even use the software themselves.  Don't these bugs drive them nuts too?

Fully agree! Also this bug/idea submission should be merged with this submission here as they address the same thing.

I've also submitted a related bug regarding sorting playlists by date added, which is a change from the previous desktop app's playlist-display behavior.  In order to keep the album track order you need to sort by Date Added with most recent at the bottom of the playlist. Before you could sort with the most recent at the top of the playlist and the albums would not reverse their track order.

Huh, am I the only one in the new UI who has a missing forward button? How do you navigate back and forth? I only have a back arrow now, which is frustrating.

Yes, please bring it back! It's so annoying. I have hundreds of albums etc. saved and really don't want to start at the beginning when I click on a playlist/podcast/artist/album and go back. I began to use Home, End, Page Up and Page Down on my keyboard to scroll faster through my library because of this.

The mobile app doesn't have this problem.

Among the other issues raised by other commenters (which basically amount to bring back the old UI, something I would be in favour of!), the most annoying thing for me is when clicking from one playlist to another, it automatically returns to the top of the playlist. So then I have to scroll all the way back down. Also if I highlight a number of songs to add to a playlist it un-highlights them so I have to do it all over. These are tiny little annoying things that nonetheless make the experience very frustrating and I'm not sure why these were changed.

When I browse albums of an artist and click on an album and then click back to see other albums I get to the top of the artists page and not to the position I was before. This is especially frustrating when I'm exploring new artists and want to listen to their different albums. Feels like i am scrolling for days, especially then, when there are a lot of albums. Also, the scroll position is not saved in the library, which is also annoying. I click on a playlist, click back and im back on top and have to search where i was before…

This behaviour is new since I got the 1.1.58.820.g2ae50076-a Update.

Soo we are still here huh?

I wish this could be fixed its STILL a real pain when exploring new artists and the worst of all, this also happens in the library, so when i missclick on an artist/playlist i have to go back and im right at the top again and have to scroll down again and wait till everything is loaded again.

And also another thing i noticed, when i put songs into the queue and then click on the album cover art spotify does the "jump-to" animation but im still on the same screen, it does not show me the song in the playlist.

YES!!! This has been such a hassle for me since it was updated. It makes viewing and organizing extremely difficult. I'm not sure why they even removed it in the first place because it is very straightforward and seemingly an obvious feature.

Thanks for bringing up the suggestion!!

people are complaining here about the lack of playlist memory but it goes far deeper than that it makes making playlists nearly impossible as every time you return after viewing an album you're brought back to the top of of your albums. not mention how artist pages are already a mess because of remasters and rereleases have the wrong dates that it just makes this issue 1000 times worse. I can't believe that the response i got for highlighting this issue in another thread was: "its working as intended"
