My Issue:

Hi everyone, recently I noticed tha when I startup Spotify, it automaticly creates a folder named "Downloads" inside my documents in Windows 10, I know it is Spotify creating this folder because everytime I delete it and startup Spotify it creates it immediatelly, I don't want this folder. Is there a way to disable this ?

Hey everyone,

We really appreciate bearing with us on this!

Could you confirm if the issue persists after performing the following steps:

  1. Delete the folder that's created
  2. Uninstall the app thoroughly with the steps here
  3. Install the app again

Our tech teams are having troubles reproducing this so any additional details or steps you provide would be very helpful:

  • The exact Spotify version running on your device
  • Any screenshots of the file or screenrecordings of what's happening - just make sure that any sensitive or private info is not displayed
  • If possible, could you check if this happening on a different desktop device?

We'll keep an eye out for your replies, thanks!

Yes, it still persists, there is no guide for uninstall it on ArchLinux, anyway, I've tried by uninstall the package and all the cache contents of the application, and when reinstalling it the problem persists. I share the logs produced by running "spotify --show-console": https://gist.github.com/andsanmar/608177c09616db32ee469eaccaca403b, where doesn't show any of the information why the folder "Downloads" is created. It's running the version 1.1.26.501.gbe11e53b

Apologies for commenting on this inappropriately. I would actually like to add a new issue that I am experiencing, but can find no way of doing so. I am fairly new to the community. Is there some block on me doing so for some reason. If not, where is the new issue/topic whatever button. It seems to me this should be something that should be easy to do.

Again apologies for hijacking this thread

Hey there folks!

@andsanmar, Thanks for getting back in touch with these details!

Just to confirm, are you deleting the Downloads folder that's created when uninstalling the app?

Any update / solution to this yet please as it has been a known issue for a year now ? I installed Spotify on a  clean windows 10 build last month and an empty 'Downloads' folder is being created in 'My Documents' every time I open the app exactly as outlined in this thread. Thanks Rob

@robstanleyWeird, it seems it was fixed a few weeks after the issue was reported, can't remember the exact version. But it is fixed for me in the latest version 1.1.48.625.g1c87c7f7-a. Cheers

Looking at this thread it was first reported in Jan 2020 and last post from Spotify was in May stating "the right folks are looking into this" but fix never confirmed. Looks like I am running the same version as you but issue still there me 😞
