Desktop Spotify will only let me download playlists, not albums

Status: Not An Issue

Hi all!

I just downloaded Spotify onto my Desktop and despite having Premium, the option to download was not available.

I uninstalled my other devices that used Spotify, so now it's just this device. The option to download has now appeared, but only for playlists that I've saved. I've tried unsaving and resaving certain albums to see if the download toggle button would appear, but it hasn't. Only with playlists.

Any solutions or ideas on why it won't let me download albums, but let me download playlists?

Hey @MansonFamily, welcome to the community!

Right now, the Desktop app doesn't have the option to download albums, so this is intended.

We'll gladly let the right team know it's something you'd like to see.

If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to open a new thread.

Cheers.

Good news!

A new desktop app update with a new design is currently rolling out to all users. One of the new features is the ability to download albums and podcasts just like you can in the mobile app.

You can read more info about the new desktop app in this news article:

The desktop team also has a blog post in the community about it:
