Desktop app crashing on Windows after latest update

Hey folks,

We've received some reports mentioning that after the recent update, the Windows Desktop app is closing itself when logging in, during playback or finishing a song.

This issue happens on both versions of the app: the client one, as well as the Microsoft Store application.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We’re happy to announce that the root cause has been discovered, so this should now be fixed for everyone - just make sure you're running the latest version of Spotify.

If you're still having trouble you can post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Have a good one!

My Question or Issue

App has been closing by itself after finishing a song. Sometimes it won't even let me play a single song. It's been like this for days

KalimaV6

I use a PC that's fairly new running Windows 10 and an older HP laptop which also uses Windows 10.  Spotify used to work perfectly on both.  My Spotify has been crashing now for the past 3 days.  You go and play an album or playlist and it simply closes itself down.  No warnings or signs that there is something wrong, just one minute it's playing and the next, nothing.  You then have to go back into Spotify and restart it.  Sometimes you can last an album, other times, not even a single song.  It's completely random.  Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Spotify and it didn't work. Rolled back both computers and nothing has changed.  What else can I do?  Except maybe look at other music apps.  If this is going to be an ongoing problem, it might be time to look elsewhere.  That and all the ads Spotify seem to like putting out.  Play 2 songs, no more, and bang, over a minute to a minute and a half of the same ads.

Same issue, I can't even play some songs it's just instantly crashing. Usually it's about 2 songs playing then it's crashing. It's been 3 days since the issue started on my Huawei laptop now i'm really **bleep** off. It's worked fine before last update, I had 0 crashes before.

I've also had this for a few days now. Spotify crashes randomly when it tries to start the next song.

if possible, a short video where we can see the issue

Hard to impossible, problem does not occur every time, but irregularly when a song finishes and a new one is about to start. Windows app is closed without any message or warning. Restarting app and trying the same song usually works. App then will close after another couple of songs. Playing the same playlist via Sonos does not have issues.

I have solved the problem, by downloading Tidal. Sadly, I think my very long time with Spotify is ended.

I have reinstalled half a dozen times, including the suggestion of a full re-install, where I had to find anything Spotify related on the laptop and delete it, which did not work as there are things the computer will not let me delete. I do not know enough about computers to follow these threads.

I hate this kind of support, which for me is no support at all. I want to talk directly to someone who can walk me through to a solution.

Salute,
the proposed solution is useless. No matter how many times you go through it. There is only one thing left to do: Spotify must fix the bug. So we wait for an update. Thank you.

My app keeps crashing spontaneously, I usually turn Hardware Acceleration on and off until it works for a random duration until it eventually crashes. Longest time it lasted was about half an hour, gave up and decided to listen via my phone, which to me isn't very convenient.

Have the same issue on Win 11 Pro and Family Premium.

Application randomly crashes on switching to next track.
