Disconnecting Bluetooth Headset casues a bug.

Device:

 Sony SVF1521ZSTB

Operating System Version:

 Windows 10 PRO

Spotify Version:

 1.0.24.104.g92a22684

Description:

Can't continue to play when bluetooth headset disconnects while playing.

To reproduce:

  1. Open spotify start playing a song.
  2. Connect bluetooth headset. (It starts to playing there.)
  3. Disconnect the headset by closing the bluetooth from windows. (Sometimes even powering off the headset)
  4. Spotify continues to play the song at least it thinks like it is playing but its not... (Songs bar is moving, time is moving too). You can't change the song or even pause it.
  5. When the song ends everything stops and stayes like that nothing works. You can select my songs, browse etc but is stuck at loading.

Workaround:

 Close Spotify and restart it.

Additional information:

Even reconnecting the headset does not fix it. You have to restart the app.

You have to stop the app by task manager before restart it because it does not stop when you close the app in other way. If you don't close it by task manager and do it normally, when you restart it again it gives you an error which says "The Spotify application is not responding".

I'm seeing a similar problem, don't know if it's related.

Device:

Macbook Pro Retina (Late 2013) w/ JBL Everest

Operating System Version:

 OS X Yosemite

Spotify Version:

 1.0.25.127.g58007b4c

Description:

Can't continue to play when bluetooth headset disconnects while playing.

To reproduce:

  1. Open spotify & start playing a song.
  2. Connect bluetooth headset. (It starts to playing there.)
Note: This issue occurs regardless of whether the headset is connected before or after Spotify starts.
  3. Pause the current playing song.
  4. Disconnect the headset via the auto-shutoff feature (after having no audio output, the headphones turn off and disconnect)
Note: Unlike the OP's situation, when disabling the bluetooth connection to the headphones or bluetooth all-together, Spotify switches   to device speakers and does not hit a bug.
  5. Spotify continues to play the song at least it thinks like it is playing but its not... (Songs bar is moving, time is moving too).
Note: Unlike the OP's situation, you can change the song or pause it.
  6. When the song ends, the song stops playing and. You can use the app just fine, but no song play. At this point, you see the "Can't play current song" error.

Workaround:

 Close Spotify and restart it.

Everytime i put the song on Pause and power off my Bluetooth headphones and then i power up my headphones again and hit the Play or unpause without waiting around 5 second for the bluetooth connection to be established. Spotify starts to play the "songbar" and crashes.

If the song is playing and i do not pause it at all i can power off or power up my headphones without Spotify crashing and the sound automatically keeps switching from headphones to laptop speakers and vise versa.

Only way to get Spotify working again is when the crash happend seem to be Killing the Spotify prosesses from Wndows taskmanager.

However to prevent the crash when the song is on pause i need to wait few seconds that the Bluetooth connection has properly been re-established before resuming the song play.

Thanks for the info.

Does it also happen if you're using your headsets with any other devices? Also, can you try to reproduce this issue with a difrerent account?

Let us know how it goes.

Ok folks. I have this annoying problem since I use Spotify at the office with the Bluetooth AKG headset I bought in January 2016.
On Windows 10 to relaunch Spotify I had to kill the 2 Spotify process from task manager (if the processes are not terminated, Spotify does not relaunch).

a) I wrote a small powershell script to kill processes and relaunch Spotify automatically - at least it does the job, here is the script. (You have to run it as Administrator)

$cmd = (Get-Process spotify).path

Get-Process spotify | Stop-Process

Start-Process $cmd[0]

b) At home in Paris, I bought last week a bluetooth headset (I had a wired one before) in the Dutch shop HEMA (by the way the brand is HEMA it's less than €20 and fantastic). And guess what : Spotify works lik a charm I have only 1 portable PC, so its the same PC than the one I use at the office.

Conclusion : I'ts not Spotify, it's the Bluetooth Driver and probably the part which is specific to the headset manufacturer.
