Downloaded icon is not being displayed

Hey folks,

We've received some reports of users being unable to see the green arrow icon for downloads on some of their downloaded songs. However, it does show on the top of the downloaded playlist. The content is still playable with no connection and no impact on the user experience.

This is under investigation.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We’re happy to say that this should now be fixed for everyone! Just make sure your app is updated to the latest version.

If you're still having trouble, make sure to post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks!

Hey folks,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Would you mind checking if the songs that aren't marked as downloaded would play in Offline mode

On another note, we suggest that you log out and then log back in twice in a row. This will trigger a sync between your account and device.

If this doesn't do the trick, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble. Keep in mind that you'll have to re-download your tracks afterwards.

If the issue persists, could you provide us with the following info?:

  • The make, model and OS version of your device.
  • Your current Spotify version.
  • Troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.
  • Does this happen on all playlists?
  • Has this started happening after a specific event such as an update?

We'd like to investigate this further.

We'll be on the lookout.

  • The make, model and OS version of your device. - Android 13, Samsung Galaxy A04s, One UI
  • Your current Spotify version. -  8.9.16.593
  • Troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.- Clean reinstall twice, Samsung SD card to inline memory as storage method, adding track back to list after delete.
  • Does this happen on all playlists? On 99 % of my playlists, over 600 songs in each. On one list does not happen, 50 tracks only.
  • Has this started happening after a specific event such as an update? - After latest Spotify update for Android.

I hope it will be fixed soon as my Offline needs aren't going away. Does not work the same way on Windows app.

It is issue only on mobile app. It seems to play when Offline mode is toggled even if it does not have Downloaded checkmark.

Log out and log in back to the app does not fix the indicator problem. It's also NOT the case when you just have a list which may contain songs from other offline lists. I only use one big list 5500+ tracks as for now to these needs and it has this problem.

Affected track has Downloaded icon or Waiting to Download icon when searched/located on Liked tracks.

So I just tried playing a track in offline mode and it worked even though it doesn't say downloaded, so it is just a UI glitch. What would be the best way to fix that? Would that just be a cache clear and a hard app reset or will it just resolve itself over time?

I did raise this issue in spotify chat support and went through an extensive troubleshoot including all the steps you have suggested. They even gave me two test accounts to see if they can replicate the issue, but the issue seemed isolated to my account.
And yes this happens to all of playlists, even playlists that had fewer than 50 songs. The songs that didn't have the downloaded icon were still playing in offline mode.

Clean installing, clearing cache and data, logging into different accounts and logging back. Nothing worked.

I even logged in to an older android device and the same issue was replicating in the other device too.

I don't think you can fix this UI bug by yourself. Something Spotify broke with an update.

I hope it will be better in next update, and I hope no more glitches. There's already too much bugs still an issue in their apps.

I also tried to change order in these lists like from custom to alphabetical, but it did not resolve this issue.

On previous bug removing custom order it worked until they fixed custom order with cover image.

Also it's worth noting after clean install, log in and log out, undo offline and redownload, it's always the same tracks affected.

Same issue here, though I can play them in offline mode and the indicator in the upper left corner also indicates the files are being downloaded. Also, they don't appear as offline either, the indicator on each track supposed to tell whether the fines is downloaded or not has just disappeared in many albums.

It is an annoying UI glitch but luckily nothing that harms the useability. Hopefully corrected next time around.

My Question or Issue

When I download the songs within a playlist, there always seems to be a few that are showing as not getting downloaded. It's not a situation where the first half was successful, but then it stopped. It visually looks as if songs are not being downloaded throughout the playlist.

All of the songs are playable while offline. I tested this by putting my phone into Airplane Mode, and disabling Internet access. All of the songs successfully play within the playlist that has been downloaded. And I verified for playlists that were not downloaded, it doesn't attempt to play.

The songs that are showing up as not downloading appear to be random to me. The visual bug looks seemingly random to me, considering there are songs at the top, in the middle, and the bottom of the playlist that are showing a green down-arrow. But a smattering of songs throughout the playlist do not have that visual indicator

This is happening on multiple playlists. It doesn't matter the number of songs. Even playlists with fewer than 30 tracks I am experiencing this.

All of the songs within the playlists are 100% on Spotify servers. I am not attempting to try to play/download any local files.

I at first thought this was a problem with songs not downloading, so I went through various troubleshooting steps to try and resolve it. At this point I have verified it's just a visual bug, so I wanted to simply report my findings.

Steps I have attempted so far to resolve the bug:
1) Clicked the icon to remove downloads from the playlist.
2) Cleared Spotify cache from within the app.

3) Clicked the icon to download the songs. Same behavior.

1) Chose the Remove all Downloads option from within Spotify settings.
2) Clicked the icon to download the songs. Same behavior.

1) Uninstalled the spofify app completely.

2) Re-installed the app.

3) Clicked the icon to download the songs. Same behavior.

1) Clicked the icon to remove downloads from the playlist.
2) Performed a full shutdown of Android OS.

3) Started the phone back up.

4) Clicked the icon to download the songs. Same behavior.

Playlist has been downloaded, but not all songs have green 'downloaded' arrow. Why is app not downloading entire playlist?

My Question or Issue

As of a week ago, in my downloaded playlists, random songs are not labeled as downloaded, but are still playing offline. I can't figure out which songs are counted towards the download limit anymore.
