Driving Safety Dismiss Message - URGENT SAFETY CONCERN!

Hi,

When connecting Spotify to my BMW iDrive (iPhone 7) via USB or Bluetooth, the BMW app automatically launches Spotify.

Spotify then automatically opens a Driving Safety Dismiss Message on the phone which must be clicked before Spotify lets you play or do anything, including controlling Spotify through the car. This only pops up when connecting to the car.

In short.. You have a safety feature warning people not to use their phone whilst driving, but the feature forces people to use their phone whilst in their car. Kinda counterproductive, right?

Can you implement a tick box or an option to permanently turn off Safety Warning from popping up every time?

I'd consider it a pretty urgent fix as you're risking people having to use their phones in the car. It's an accident waiting to happen.

Hey @P3rks! Thanks for writing.

This feature is meant to notify the driver when they're connecting Spotify to their card while getting ready to start driving. This ensures that the driver reads and acknowledges the information showing up on their phone.

However, we understand where you're coming from. We'll make sure to let the right team know about this, so the feature is improved and we can provide the best customer experience. We hope this helps.

Also, we'll be moving this post to the "Not an issue" section, since you're providing us with your honest feedback. If you ever need help with anything else, feel free to create a new thread. Have an amazing day 🙂

Hi, are there any updates on this issue please? I consider a warning that kind of forces me to actively use my phone to acknowledge the warning as a safety hazard. Let's be honest: no one will ever think of it prior to actual driving (when realising Spotify is not working), as most people are more concerned of getting out of parking lots etc. in the first seconds, than unlocking their phones - for good reason...

Thanks

+1 to this safety concern!

Because of this “safety notice” I have to get my phone out of my purse and tap Dismiss on my phone. The whole point is that I shouldn’t be handling my phone when driving. Furthermore, this notice doesn’t appear upon connecting — it only shows up once the car is moving! Everything about this defeats the purpose of phone safety while driving. This interstitial needs to be disabled completely.

I would say this is an issue as a) its prompting users to use their phone will driving (despite Spotify's intentions) and b) this is just plain irritating having to do this everytime you get in to your car.

A one time disclaimer and dismissal per user/vehicle is all that should be required here or at the very least still be able to play music without dismissal if you do not access your phone.

I should be able to get in my car and play music without even having to touch my phone.

I can’t beleive this still hasn’t been resolved. I’m always forgetting this happens and end up rooting for my phone while driving to tap on the dismiss button, it makes no sense. I should just be able to get in the car and drive and it continues playing where it left off.

In fact this safety warning forces me to reach out for my phone while the car is driving (most of times) and become a safety hazard. Who would wait for a few minutes every time the car is started and have to reach out for your phone in your pocket or purse and wait for the safety warning to pop up just to click the Dismiss button? This is a major annoyance and does not fit into a typical way on how people drive their car and want to enjoy their streaming music as soon as possible.

I feel this “feature” is more to protect the company against potential liability. A one time acknowledgment should be sufficient to warn the driver. This “feature” is an endless annoyance.

I just cannot believe we still have to deal with this kind of “integration” while Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are becoming more popular and do so much more than just playing music.

I vote for for removing this from “Not an issue” and for Spotify to start implementing a proper car integration. It it a big safety issue for me and it seems like I am not the only one.

Hello Spotify.

When is this issue going to be solved?

A small reminder that there are (first) aid responders use their navigation to navigate to a call and lose time due to an app that refuses to disable this warning.

I wonder how many people have got a fine due to this warning or arrived to late to a scene to aid someone.

Well Done Spotify

This is an issue that has -

* been previously reported, awhile ago, by several people

 * seriously impacted usability of the app

* been identified by users as a safety issue

* been unilaterally declared a non-issue by Spotify

My resolution? I’m canceling my Spotify subscription.

So infuriating to have a valid, safety-related issue ignored.

I can’t believe this hasn’t been fixed.

Anyone coming onto this thread now, open a new issue, I don’t think they even keep track of the conversations in “not an issue”.

It is utter bs this is has still not been fixed.
