Gapless does not work on Chromecast Audio

Gapless playback does not work when connected to a Chromecast Audio.

Using either a Nexus 5X running Android 7.0, or an ASUS tablet running Android 4.2.2.

Gapless works as expected with normal playback on the devices themselves.

Spotify version 6.9.0.1212, Chromecast firmware version 1.21.74816

Thanks for that info @brokensitar

We're afraid gapless playback isn't available in Chromecast Audio for Spotify, but we'll pass on your feedback to the right folks and let them know it's an option you'd like to see.

Let us know if there's anything else we can do for you, we'd love to help 🙂

Hi @brokensitar! Thanks for writing on the Community.

Can you let us know if this started happening after an specific update or event? Try resetting your internet router to see if this helps.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for your reply

As I'm a new Spotify Premium customer and have never used Spotify before, gapless on Chromecast Audio has never worked for me. Rebooting my router did not fix the problem.
I suspect that the problem is on the Chromecast end, as it seems as though the Chromecast is attempting gapless playback, but yet still inserts a small (but very annoying) gap between tracks.

Doing a quick search on your forums reveals that this has been a problem for some time:

Thanks for that info @brokensitar

Just to check - what do you see when you go to Playback on Settings? If possible, can you send us a screenshot?

Hope to hear back from you soon.

Turning crossfade or normalization on/off does not make any difference

Please note that gapless playback on Chromecast works with Google Play Music.

Why is the status of this issue still set to "Need more info"?

Are you acknowledging that this is a problem, or......?

JuanSebastian

Thanks @brokensitar

Can you make sure to update your Spotify app to our latest version (7.1.0)?

Let us know if this makes a difference.

 @JuanSebastian @Mara_F

Yes, I do have the latest version of the Android app (7.1.0.1025), and the problem is still there.

But like I said before, this is most likely not due to a bug in your Android app, but rather due to a bug in your Chromecast app. Can you just please ackowledge that this is a problem, and pass the information on to your developers? I've given you examples of other people posting complaints about the exact same issue, so there is really no reason to hesitate any further.

This is absolutely a shame, spotify + chromecast audio is a powerful solution for music listening, but the gapless bug makes me think of switching to Google Play music. Can't you find a solution???
