My Question or Issue

The issue started this morning. Spotify was in sync with Google Clock (used as my alarm clock every morning). This morning, the alarm clock gave me a beeping tone with a error on the bottom saying "{"message": "failed to switch to local device"}" even though it says both apps are connected and in sync

So far, I've cleared data and re-installed the app both apps, and did a hard restart on my device and the issue is still ongoing. App version 8.5.11.762

EDIT: Google Clock app version: 6.1.1, Here is my most recent test and the error that is still ongoing today.  I tried Pandora with Google Clock, since it's capable of syncing to these two apps along with Youtube Music app (which I don't have).  The alarm works fine with Pandora.

Looking for help on other ways to fix this issue.

Many Thanks

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your replies! This should be fixed now.

If you're having troubles after updating to the latest version available, we'd recommend trying a clean reinstall of the Spotify app with these steps.

If none of these help, we'd still like to know. In that case, we'd suggest starting a new thread in the related Help Board and we'll be happy to lend a hand.

Have a lovely day 🙂

Hey there folks,

Thanks for your patience so far!

Our tech teams have done their magic backstage to fix this issue in the latest version available.

Just to confirm, could you update the app and let us know if you're still having troubles?

If updating doesn't do the trick, we'd recommend trying a quick reinstall of the app as well.

If none of these work, it'd be helpful if you could let us know the following details so we can pass them on to the right teams:

  • Your device and its OS (operating system) version
  • Exact version of the Spotify app you end up after updating

Thanks!

I am still having this issue. I have followed the instructions listed to this 'resolution,' but continue to get the "Cannot connect to spotify..." error message. I have also cleared both apps, uninstalled/reinstalled both apps, and just today performed a factory reset on my Oneplus 6 and am still getting the error.  Any thoughts?

My alarm worked fine until last week. Suddenly there's only vibration, no music. I have a Sony Xperia 5iii, latest system updates and have tried all the suggested solutions without any result (so yes, before you ask: I have the latest version of Spotify installed). From this forum I can tell this has been a known problem for quite som time (years, in fact) same as the bugg that puts some playlists automatically on shuffle. Both problems are really annoying and unpractical, so my question is, since we pay for Spotify Premium and its functions: are you planning on fixing this or will you just leave it as it is for a few more years?
