Step 1

Google assistant not playing personalised playlists

Nest hub, home mini

My Question or Issue

Ever since Spotify wrapped 2021 came out, my nest devices no longer play my personalised playlists via voice commands. I can see the command come up on my next hub (eg hey Google Play my playlist top songs 2017), but it simply ignores it and plays something that sounds similar. People are reporting this issue on the Google community forums too.

Hey there,

Thanks for all the help in resolving this. We're happy to announce that this should now be fixed.

If you still experience this hindrance, make sure you're using the latest version of both the Google and Spotify software and if so, post in the relevant help boards.

Hey @Senderbell,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the additional info.

To continue with the investigation, could you share the URI of the playlists that start when you're trying to play your daily mix?

We'll be on the lookout.

My share menu doesn't have URI so I'm getting the links... BTW I noticed that these are technically albums, not playlists.

Discover Weekly:

Daily mix 2:

Daily mix 3:

Daily mix 4:

Daily mix 5:

Luis Masters doesn't appear to have a Daily Mix 1, just a Daily Mix, so I'm not including that.

Also, I tried to respond earlier with details you requested, app and device versions etc, but I don't see it here so I am not sure what happened. But the problem first started happening in December of 2021. I'm running the Spotify app on Android 12, Samsung Note 20 5G. The problem occurs most frequently when I use my Google Home Mini.

Status changed to: Under investigation

  • exact Spotify version

Thanks! We’ll keep you posted and let you know as soon as we have any updates on this.

Last week it was fine but today Louis Masters again.

I don't know what the problem is but I'm really frustrated.

For years I've listened through my discover weekly playlists using my Google speakers, simply using the voice command 'play my discover weekly playlist'.
For the past many months, this voice command plays a not very good playlist of someone elses making called discover weekly. Not the Spotify discover weekly playlist.
I used to love listening to my discover weekly playlist, its a great way of finding new music, but now the frustration is too much. I sit in silence.

I'd love to find if anyone has a solution. I even tried using the Android 'action block app, but even that plays the wrong

Hey folks,

The team is still investigating this issue and they could use your help. Would it be possible to share the exact model of your Google devices (if you haven't already)?

In my case it is JBL Link Portable, JBL Link Music, Google Nest Mini gen.2  and smartphone Motorola g5G. Device model does not matter.

I have had this issue also...... but..... I found that if I went into my google assistant settings and linked google to Spotify making it my default music provider , it solved the problem and now plays all my personal and public playlists on demand.

This solution doesn't work for me.

When I try to listen to my dayli mixes i always hear Louis Masters. I blocked him but it didn't help. Discover weekly works fine but only when I say it in my language, not in english.

Daily mixes unfortunately have no equivalent in my language.

I had to stop using Daily Mixes because of Luis Masters naming his albums "Daily Mix 1," "Daily Mix 2," and so forth. This artist is blatantly stealing from Spotify through misuse of and undermining of it's lax policies and poorly designed interface with Google Assistant.

The fact that Spotify has not fixed this after years of abuse (and theft, to be fair) by this con artist is making the company look really bad and inviting others to exploit it in similar ways.

Shame, shame, shame.
