Issue

With spotify version 8.4.77.779 the google maps integration no longer works. I have the spotify setup as the default media application and it will only ever display "to play music, you need to connect spotify when it's safe to do so." You press continue and it toasts "you are now conncted... etc"

Hey all,

Issue should now be fixed! Be sure to upgrade to the most recent version.

Let us know if the issue persists, or if you have further questions.

Have a nice day!

Hi all!

Try this and let me know if you're able to get the music controls to show up:

  1. Make sure that Google Maps navigation is not running in the background
  2. Force Close Spotify app
  3. Open Google Maps' navigation and start to navigate

The music controls should appear for that drive. If you stop navigating then you need complete steps 1-3 again.

Cheers 🙂

Issue

I can report I have the same issue.

Google maps: 10.3.1

Spotify: 8.4.78.530

I can confirm it doesn't work for me either. Recently moved from Nexus 6P to OnePlus 6T and it didn't fix the issue. Definitely due to the latest Spotify update.

I am also having this issue on my new OnePlus 6T

Hi all!

To troubleshoot this issue could you all please complete these steps first:

  • Head here and click Remove all devices
  • Go to your Spotify settings, scroll down to Storage and then clear the cache
  • From the Android home screen, tap Settings > Apps
  • Find Spotify in your list of apps, tap it and clear the cache and data. Then select Uninstall.
  • Switch your device off and wait a couple minutes
  • Switch your device back on
  • Open the Google Play Store then search for and install the Spotify Music app

After that go to you Android's Settings > Apps > scroll till you find Spotify > scroll till you see Notifications > toggle on External Applications. Also, if possible, try and set Importance to High. And then try again (make sure to try navigation more than once without force closing Google Maps and Spotify).

If then the music controls still don't work properly post here and add a screenshot (without any personal/sensitive data) of the error that you get/see.

I'm having this issue on version 8.4.78.530 on Android on a OnePlus 6T. I can't get past the screen in the attached screenshot. When I click continue it brings up a page with a spinner for half a second, then displays "You're connected. You'll see the Spotify icon when navigating" but the UI doesn't change from what's in the screenshot.

Spotify: 8.4.78.530

Google Maps: 10.3.1 (#1003101040)

Been having this problem for the past two or three days. I've deleted the cache and user date for both apps, reinstalled them and reconnected, but to no avail - still no media controls within Google Maps. I've also been in contact with Spotify customer service via Twitter and used their test account. No change.

All I get is a toast/notification message saying "You're connected. You'll see the Spotify icon when navigating."

We've passed this on to our tech folks and they'll look into this. In the meanwhile, you can try the steps below:

  1. On your phone's Settings > Apps > scroll until you find Spotify > Notifications > toggle on External Applications.  You can also tap this setting and then set Importance to High.
  2. Return to Google Maps navigation and click "Continue"

We'll let you know as soon as we have any updates.

I followed those instructions, but nothing happened. Still have the "To play music, you need to connect to Spotify when it's safe to do so". I press the button "Continue", it seems that it logs in for  abrief moment to Spotify, but nothing happens.
