High Spotify CPU usage (Mac)

Hey folks,

We're receiving reports of an unusually high CPU usage on the part of Spotify.

First, we'd recommend trying a clean reinstall of the app on your device by following the steps here.

If after that you’re still having trouble with this, it'd be great if you'd provide us with the following info:

  • your device + operating system version
  • exact Spotify version
  • a brief description of how you come to experience the issue
  • one or more screenshots

Once we have that, we will pass it on to the relevant team, who will look further into it.

Thanks!

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We’re happy to say that this should now be fixed for everyone! Make sure your app is updated to the latest version.

If you're still having trouble, make sure to post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks!

Hello, my computer's fan is LOUD and when I checked, the % is at 99%. I already tried to reinstall it but it didnt work. I have the 2020 13inch macbook pro - processor: 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

Spotify for macOS (Intel)
1.1.71.560.gc21c3367

Predicaments

This is NOT fixed! Running Spotify on my new Mac Studio in Monterey 12.4 and it's using 132% of my CPU!!!!

Was having this same issue and the instructions from this other thread seem to have fixed it (for now)...

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Mac/Constantly-100-CPU-usage/m-p/5482416

"Go to Settings > toggle 'Show Local Files' on > toggle off all the sources that appear there (Downloads, My Music, and other) > toggle 'Show Local files' back to OFF. After that close the Spotify app and restart your computer.

This is a known issue with MacOS Catalina, as the app is trying to scan your device's music folders for local files, it starts using a lot of the computer's resources."

Good luck.
