Issue with storage option switching from SD Card to internal

My Question or Issue

This happened with my last phone, Samsung S7 running Oreo (or whatever the most recent OS is) but it was fixed when I got the Moto X4. I like to keep a lot of songs downloaded offline because my service is terrible and I also spend a lot of time in the mountains. Before I I update my phone to the new Android Pie OS there was no problems. Now everytime I reset my phone I think spotify cannot see my SD card at first and tries to download all the music to its internal storage and I have to go back in and tell it to store it in the SD card. That is extremely annyoing but not the end of the world. What is really frustrating is that I think all of the downloaded songs are still on the SD card and just keep redownloading and taking up space. Eventually this will cause me to reformat the card which will be a major pain for me since I store a large amount of photos on there also. Is anyone else have this problem? I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the application so any other suggestions or help?

Hey there.

We just wanted to let you know that we've looked into this with the right folks now.

We are currently trying to resolve the issue. We don't have a timeframe for a fix, but we're really glad you let us know about this. If you have any other questions, just let us know!

Keep your app up-to-date and have a nice day 🙂

Evidence this issue is still being ignored by Spotify. Dec 20 2019 followed idea of uninstall, format SD, log on to web account removed all offline devices, reinstall app, re-download all tunes to SD. Used phone for 3 days, restarted, tunes started download all over again 🤷‍♂️ all the clever tech out there and two massive companies cannot resolve a big issue? C'mon Google and Spotify, have a beer, work it out.

All new phones have the issue fixed just trade it in for a new one or try
this.

Turn developer options on. Near the bottom find 'force allow apps on
external'. Now click 'settings'> 'apps' >'spotify'. To get to 'app info'
(you can also do this by holding down on the Spotify icon then pressing the
'i' button) You will see a list the third one down is 'storage' click that
then under the heading 'storage used' click change and select 'SD card'.
This will move Spotify to the SD card, preventing it from starting before
the SD card is mounted.

Phone is brand new like two weeks old.

I'll try your idea, thanks.
I saw I have enough storage on internal, so gave up on the SD and uses
internal instead. I'll use SD for other data.

Appreciate the time you spent to suggest the idea 👍

Yeah, I made the decision to free up space on the primary drive and move things over to SD Storage which i have formatted to look like internal storage.

Then, one day, almost constantly android was complaining about running out of memory and causing really odd behaviors with the phones. So, two weeks of putting up with this **bleep** and constantly going back to spotify to re-assert the change that would achieve my intended goals.  And yes, when memory is in high demand, you won't even receive phone calls.

If this bug wasn't sufficiently annoying, the fact that it re downloaded 7.2GB of data on my data plan, more than omce.

Very disappointing.

I'm having the same problem using my Samsung Galaxy S9+ ... I get Spotify to transfer my music to my SD card, which it does successfully, then within a few days or after an app update, it suddenly reverts back to my phone memory! Not only is this taking up valuable phone memory but it drains my phone battery like crazy & takes ages to do, when I don't even want it there - I want it on my SD card where there's loads of space!

Is there no way that once I've transferred my music to the SD card that I can somehow 'lock' it there?! It's soo annoying!

I have the same issue and looked everywhere to find a solution. Hasn't spotify found a fix to this yet? Deleting the spotify app from the home screen did nothing. Neither did uninstalling, reinstalling, clearing cache and so on...Will have to switch to Google Play...

The solution suggested does not work.

i have run into this issue about a year ago and the resolution was logging out of all devices. the issue has returned im running a galaxy s9+. i uninstalled spotify on all devices except my phone and have even done a reinstall on the phone. i used the chat to troubleshoot and they told me the sd card was the problem and my response was its not because every other app and my phone(i use it for camera storage) can see it and use it just fine. spotify is the only app that switches back and forth. one day it will be there and i can use it the next day its gone and i instantly run out of on device storage because it transferred my whole library.
