Lock screen/steering wheel controls not working

My Question or Issue

Since the last Spotify update, the lock screen buttons on my phone to pause or skip do not work. Neither do the bluetooth connected steering wheel buttons in my car. This is not limited to me - other phones in our house are having exactly the same issue (another S7 Oreo and an S9 Pie). I have deleted the app, restarted the phone, reinstalled the app and it's still the same. The lack of this function in the car means unwanted tracks cannot be skipped as it is illegal to touch a mobile phone while drivin - the new in car view is therefore useless. Please fix this bug!!!

I turned off the stranger things mode as well as car view mode and it seems to have solved the problem for a minute ...

I too was having these problems on a S9 running Android 9. It seems to be something to do with the battery optimisation settings on the phone.

I went into settings>apps>spotify then click on battery. You need to make sure that spotify is set to not be optimised. Since doing this all the issues seem to have been fixed.

Hopefully it's not just a quick fix and the issues stay away.

Yeah I turned off the stranger things and car mode too, plus the app badges, battery optimization and uninstalled /reinstalled

Same problem s9 with Pie after latest spotify update.  Tried all the clear cache, reinstall app, restart phone etc.

Problem is still there

Same issue here... lock screen controls are visible but do not work.  Bluetooth control while locked does not work either.

There is a "easy fix" for this 

For an example you select shuffle play on a playlist of yours , just click next song and close the screen

Lock screen and bluetooth will work

Sorry the scenario that it will fix it:

Click on a song to play

Lock the screen

Unlock the screen

Tap next song

Close the screen

And now the lockscreen controls and bluetooth will work

This is not a fix, we want Spotify solve this problem as soon as possible

Same thing happening to me. This is so frustrating because I use my music for my classes. The songs randomly stop playing as well since the update but I log into my phone and the play button is still playing but no music is actually playing. I have to turn shut down spotify and open it back up. It happens every 3 or 4 songs. My lock screen controls don't let me do anything so having to login everytime this happens in the middle of a yoga class is a headache. Please fix!
