[Mac] Spotify not working after updating to macOS Catalina

My Question or Issue

I just finished installing Mac OS Catalina, and each time I try to open Spotify, the icon jumps like normal as if it’s about to open, and then it just doesn’t open. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify several times as well as clearing the cache, but the problem still persists. Is there any way to fix it?

I am facing the similar issue. If you find out the answer, please do let me know. This is also happening for Google Chrome on my Macbook as well.

Hi there!

I know it sounds simple, but it's often overlooked. Could you try restarting your device? If that doesn't help, try a quick clean reinstall of the app. Just follow these steps.


Try to disable Hardware Acceleration, just click on the spotify Menu in your Menu Bar next to the Apple Menu, just find Hardware Acceleration and next click on it to disable then confirm to restart Spotify.

If you're still having trouble, could you let me know the exact version of Spotify?

I suspect it is some weird issue regarding hardware. I cannot prove it though. I checked the system's log and I can see it's some libraries conflict in MacOS but I don't know who to mail about it. Let me know if you find any other application conflict.

I've tried reinstalling, but I'm unable to even access the Spotify menu on the menu bar because it closes before I can click on it, so I also can’t access hardware acceleration either. The version is 1.1.17.543.geb9254e9

My Question or Issue

Good evening, does anyone else have problems with the Spotify application in MacOs Catalina ?, It doesn't let me in and use it, it closes just by just starting the application.

What I did to start the application was to get into the folders of the App and run the application directly from there.

I already uninstalled the app and reinstalled it.

The problem persists.


Someone knows something about it?
