[Mac] Spotify not working after updating to macOS Catalina

My Question or Issue

I just finished installing Mac OS Catalina, and each time I try to open Spotify, the icon jumps like normal as if it’s about to open, and then it just doesn’t open. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify several times as well as clearing the cache, but the problem still persists. Is there any way to fix it?

@Peter I can confirm, it works for me too in the latest version of Spotify.

It would be very nice if someone from the dev team maybe could explain in one or two sentences what caused the problem. There are many other apps out there with similar problems and at least a hint about where to search for the bug would be highly appreciated!

We really appreciate your patience so far regarding this!

 

Our tech teams have done some bagic backstage and we wanted to confirm if you're still having troubles after updating to the latest version available.

 

If so, make sure to try the steps below:

  1. Remove all lines from hosts file that are blocking Spotify - there's steps on how to do this in this Spotify Answer.
  2. If there are no lines when checking the hosts file for Spotify, reinstall the app with these steps.
  3. Ensure Spotify is set as an exception in your firewall settings.
  4. Try a different network.

If you're still having troubles, just let us know by leaving a comment with the exact version of the app you're on, as well as any screenshots of how the app looks for you.

  • If so, which Spotify version are you currently on (the exact one)?

Hi, mine is working fine now, I had to reinstall a couple of times. Also Apple have released an update which seems to have helped with other Catalina issues I was having, not sure if that's related.
