No sound when playing song

Status: Case Closed

Just got a new computer and monitor (built-in speakers) and headset, wanting to listen to my music but when I go to play a song it'll play (says it can't at the top), but when I either plug in or unplug my headset, Spotify goes quiet, yet still says it's playing music. All other sounds on my comp work, but not Spotify. I made sure the soundbar was on, even checked the volume mixer (Spotify was missing from the list). Any ideas?

Hi @gattok80! Welcome to the Community.

We're here to help. Can you let us know which operating system and Spotify version you're currently using? Also, what error message are you getting on your app? A screenshot would be very helpful.

We'll see what we can suggest.

Windows 10, Spotify 1.0.74.380.g1fcff12a (Windows Store version) (Should be the latest). The error message I got, regardless if it played or didn't, was "The current song cannot be played". I haven't been getting this message anymore since I downloaded the songs (premium), but I've tested the issue more. Without headphones in it plays fine, plugging headphones in without pausing the song still works, unplug headphones and it goes silent, but the youtube video I had playing in the background the whole time had no problems.

There's nothing out of the ordinary in the screenshot, though I tried to repeat the steps I did when the error message did pop up (which was simply playing an un-downloaded song), but it didn't show.

Hey @gattok80!

Thanks for getting back to us with this information.

Let's make sure your audio drivers are up to date before trying again, including headphones drivers if it applies.

To narrow down the issue, try playing Spotify with the regular speakers first, and restart the application when you change the audio output to a different one.

Let us know what you find.
