Now Playing bar missing on Android

Hey folks,

 

We have received reports that Android users (mostly Samsung users) are unable to see the Now Playing bar on the app whenever they play songs/podcasts.

Hello everyone,

We've been continuing to gather your details in this thread and further looking into matters.

As mentioned previously, the issue with the now playing bar had been resolved for the majority of users about a month ago. The common denominator with every report received afterwards was that this was still intermittently an issue on Samsung phones. 

There's most likely something within how the affected phones process and handle the Spotify app that still causes the now playing bar to misbehave. We'll continue to work on optimizing the app and trying to find a permanent solution for those affected.

While this is ongoing, we want to thank @Tom0527 for posting steps that provide a solution by modifying some phone settings. Follow the instructions in his post and you shouldn't have any more troubles. 

As we now have enough information, the general fix is in place and there's a device-specific solution, we will be marking this thread as Fixed and closing it. With that being said, we want to reiterate that we'll continue in our efforts to improve stability for all supported phone models from our end as well.

TIP: don't link to older versions of Spotify. Your Account get banned for 7-days... Strangely enough using a different IP in combination with my account, don't result in a ban. Also the mod accused me linking repeatedly  to older version. That was not the case I only did it once.

Really!? A few weeks ago I saw that other Android users were reporting the same problems (no playbar and random stops) that I was and still am experiencing on Note 10 Android 12 and that you Spotify folks were addressing and fixing this with the next update. 

The problems still persist, no update or resolution in sight (the classic 'please uninstall and reinstall' does not sound like a qualified fix, update, or solution to me)  and I now see you assume you solved the problem because traffic to this thread has decreased. 

Decreased traffic could also indicate exasperation and users looking into other, functioning, and better supported alternatives.

That is a possibility of course, @tunaman_jim. But then everyone might also just be regularly force closing the spotify app.

This was suggested in an earlier helpful comment and just restored the playbar for me. 

Not a really good fix but at least quicker than the whole clean uninstall / reinstall rigmarole.

Let's hope it lasts a while.

The track player dissapears at random times and I have to close the app and reopen it to get it back.

  1. What an absolute joke! Uninstall, reinsatll, clean reinstall, log out, log in, restart phone. Tried it all. Sometimes I get a day with it working fine, sometimes a couple of days,but mostly it's not even worth using because it won't work and I end up just yelling at the phone. You guys have has more than long enough to get it sorted! Why am I being charged for something that I can hardly use? Samsung A52 with version 8.7.32.1554 @Mario

  • 2. Just bought this Samsung A32 so the install is very clean, also deleted cache and data

I did a clean install and indeed the problem seems to be fixed. But a new problem rises. Sometimes the album art won't show up. The only solution is to force close the app.

 

I am on the latest version and did a clean install. Phone: One Plus Nord. Edit: I saw a new update. Hope it fixes the issue!

I've uninstalled the app, & rebooted my cellphone, the last option brought back the bar, but after I played some songs & stopped the reproduction of media the problem returned.
