Ongoing performance issues on iOS devices - app being slow/crashing within a few minutes of playback

Hey folks,

We had received reports that some of you were experiencing technical issues on your iOS devices (running version 8.8.72.623 or higher). The app was crashing or the playback was suddenly stopping.

The issue was fixed but it seems it has resurfaced shortly after.

It is currently being investigated.

Hey folks!

Our tech folks backstage have confirmed that the initial issues, which were the reasons for this OI thread have been resolved. Seeing that most of you have stopped commenting - this seems to be confirming the case.

For anyone experiencing any further iOS issues, even if they are similar to the abovementioned, we'd like to ask you to go over the following steps:

  • Clear your app's cached data;
  • See if a complete clean reinstall of the app would make a difference;
  • Check if the issue would be present when you log in with a different account; a new free account for testing purposes can be used for this;
  • If the issue is present with both accounts, you can try a different iOS device, as this could be device-related;
  • Gather your findings and create a new post about your issue in this board here, making sure you add your device's model, its OS version and your Spotify app version

Many thanks!

P.S. If you've created a new account and you wish to transfer your music - this FAQ might be of help 🙂

As many folks are echoing - app crashes frequently and response times are incredibly slow. Essentially unusable at this point on iPhone 12 Mini and ios17.1.1

I’ve been completely unable to use Spotify at all the past couple weeks due to the repeated crashing. I cannot stress enough how much this actually impacts my daily life without having access to music, news, podcasts, etc. I have tried everything recommended by tech from hours of research. The app for iOS is so unstable, and the lack of response from Spotify in regards to complaints about this, concerns my confidence in awareness of the issue. The only way to listen, is to change my phone settings to never shutting off the screen, and not keeping the battery saver on; draining my entire battery in only a few quick hours. I am genuinely desperate for a solution, so I can resume my daily hours at a time listens.

Echoing other comments. iPhone 12 mini, issues after updating. Not resolved. Incredibly frustrated, particularly with Thanksgiving coming up. I feel like we should receive refunds for the week+ that it’s been unusable. 90% of my usage is on my phone. This is not okay.

Hi,

I had this problem from June until some weeks ago when it was fixed. I’m still on version 8.8.82 on my iPhone 7, 11 and iPad Pro 2022. So if I understand correctly it’s better not to update? Because my app still works. I was afraid to update again when the problem was finally fixed, because the app didn’t work for months, so that’s why I’m still on an old Spotify version.

Preface: not a connectivity issue; have tried all of the uninstall/ reinstall processes on the site.

Just want to echo what everyone else here is saying. Can take up to 5 minutes to load a playlist/album after clicking on one. Once music finally does start playing, will randomly stop and close the app. Kinda ridiculous that the app is faster on my TV than on my phone. Currently unusable. Been this way for the last 2-3 months.

The past couple weeks I’ve had major issues on my iPhone 12. Frequent crashing, input delay up to 10 seconds, and massive battery drain. I’m talking like 50% of my battery after an hour of background usage. I’ve tried clearing the cache and reinstalling the app multiple times with no improvement.

I’ve used Spotify as my primary podcast app for years but have had to go back to the Apple podcast app until this is fixed.

My app had been totally unusable for the past 6 days. It doesn’t even open. The screen goes black when it should be loading, and then the app closes on its own.

I finally had time to troubleshoot and I’ve done all troubleshooting indicated 4 times - app refresh/restart, uninstall/reinstall, power cycling phone, clearing cache, updating iOS to latest (17.1.1) and no change. The app is unusable.

I’m not going to accept anything less than a refund for this month. If Spotify doesn’t get it done I’ll delete the app. I don’t even care anymore.

I haven’t been able to use the app in a month, without setting my screen to never turn off and not leaving the app, which is a huge battery drain. I went through extensive troubleshooting with the Spotify Cares team and still can’t use the app. At this point I might just ask for a refund or cancel altogether.
