Ongoing performance issues on iOS devices - app being slow/crashing within a few minutes of playback

Hey folks,

We had received reports that some of you were experiencing technical issues on your iOS devices (running version 8.8.72.623 or higher). The app was crashing or the playback was suddenly stopping.

The issue was fixed but it seems it has resurfaced shortly after.

It is currently being investigated.

Hey folks!

Our tech folks backstage have confirmed that the initial issues, which were the reasons for this OI thread have been resolved. Seeing that most of you have stopped commenting - this seems to be confirming the case.

For anyone experiencing any further iOS issues, even if they are similar to the abovementioned, we'd like to ask you to go over the following steps:

  • Clear your app's cached data;
  • See if a complete clean reinstall of the app would make a difference;
  • Check if the issue would be present when you log in with a different account; a new free account for testing purposes can be used for this;
  • If the issue is present with both accounts, you can try a different iOS device, as this could be device-related;
  • Gather your findings and create a new post about your issue in this board here, making sure you add your device's model, its OS version and your Spotify app version

Many thanks!

P.S. If you've created a new account and you wish to transfer your music - this FAQ might be of help 🙂

@Vasil Is there some other way to get actual tech support? I'm not sure what the point of this was

The app is painfully slow. It takes ages to refresh, search, load and everything...

How is making a new account even possible when you pay for a subscription with an account. Now this solution seems to be the last straw. It appears the size of the library has forever ballooned over ten years and so it seems to have bogged down in future iOS iterations as iOS and Spotify keep playing bug you tennis back and forth. The user is never the winner. Used to be best to have a radio and it just worked. Now we have to keep software developers in business and make iOS new and improved. Nothing in Apple is going to be better without first pissing off many more people in the process of making so called progress.

this is the problem with technology

it never fails to create more problems in the name of science and progress.

never never fails to break and spin and churn and forget it is not worth it

I tried all steps including uninstalling and clean reinstalling, and although playback works on a different account this is not a solution. Please fix my account.

My Question or Issue

See above.

An issue I have (iPhone 15) is that the timer bar now will not disappear when playing music like it usually does when you tap once on the screen. It is stuck always on display so you can’t see the album animation clearly.

I’ve been having problems for ages, they fixed it last time and it turned out to be a problem on their end (https://community.spotify.com/t5/Ongoing-Issues/Spotify-loads-slowly-goes-unresponsive-on-iOS/idc-p/...) but its been broken on my device for a few months now (I hardly use iOS nowadays so have left it on the backburner) yet works fine on my dad’s 2017 iPad Pro. The usual stuff, albums / artist / home page extremely slow (and often failing) to load text and album images or songs. I would imagine its still disagreeing with the amount of playlists I have saved, but even if I wanted to go back and prune these it’s hardly feasible as Spotify has always been abysmal with handling playlists, you can tell they didn’t think ahead and imagine people saving a great very many back in the late 00s. In fairness I had a similar problem on my PC after reinstalling Spotify trying to readdress what turned out to be an unrelated issue where everything slowed down to a crawl in the same way, but this sorted itself out after I let the app run for a while and eventually it did manage to refamiliarise itself with all my saved playlists and get back to normal speed, but this time that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Edit: don’t know how I forgot the biggest issue but Spotify will also crash after less than a minute of playback virtually every time I play a song. You can tell I barely use iOS anymore lol

Not Fixed.
Using Spotify for macOS (Intel) 1.2.49.439.gfae492c7 on MacBook Pro Monterrey OS 12.7.6 device.
For about four days now, randomly the playback stops (while streaming playlists), always after the first 2 seconds of the song. I have to close the app and restart it which seems to fix it, but the issue persists. (UPDATE:) AFTER 6 days the problem is actually getting WORSE. Now it is stopping after every 3-4 songs while streaming (ex: Release Radar)
