Ongoing performance issues on iOS devices - app being slow/crashing within a few minutes of playback

Hey folks,

 

We had received reports that some of you were experiencing technical issues on your iOS devices (running version 8.8.72.623 or higher). The app was crashing or the playback was suddenly stopping.

The issue was fixed but it seems it has resurfaced shortly after. 

It is currently being investigated.

Our tech folks backstage have confirmed that the initial issues, which were the reasons for this OI thread have been resolved. Seeing that most of you have stopped commenting - this seems to be confirming the case.

For anyone experiencing any further iOS issues, even if they are similar to the abovementioned, we'd like to ask you to go over the following steps:

 

  • Clear your app's cached data;
  • See if a complete clean reinstall of the app would make a difference;
  • Check if the issue would be present when you log in with a different account; a new free account for testing purposes can be used for this;
  • If the issue is present with both accounts, you can try a different iOS device, as this could be device-related;
  • Gather your findings and create a new post about your issue in this board here, making sure you add your device's model, its OS version and your Spotify app version

Tried the same thing as @heyitsbea, and it seems to have alleviated the issue. Wonder if it's a certain playlist or podcast thats causing the slowdown.

My Question or Issue

Pongo el spotify a reproducir la música, a los 30s se detiene, esto pasa esté usando otra app o no la esté usando, me pasa igual en mi ipad air 4, pero en mi celular android samsung galaxy S23 no.

Ya borré el caché, reinicié la app, la desisntalé y la volví a instalar, cerré sesión en todos los dispositivos, también reinicie varias veces mi dispositivo, hacer espacio en la memoria RAM, activar el segundo plano, desactivar el ahorro de batería, pero nada, sigue igual, ya llevo un par de días con este problema.

Hi, the Apple Watch app also has a BIG issue, which is that it freezes for 3 to 5 seconds every time I wake up the screen with the app open or I manually open the app, basically making it unusable and super frustrating. I also reinstalled everything and waited for an update but nothing has changed, I have this issue since the last two updates. 

 

Last version I tested is: 8.8.94.545 with Watch OS 10.1.1 and iOS 17.1.2

Not fixed at all. I’ve done every single thing suggested in the previous threads / on previous pages, and nothing has changed. Really feeling frustrated as we have a paid subscription and I’ve been unable to use it other than on my laptop for months now. Seriously considering switching to another platform of this can’t get resolved before the end of the year. Anyone else at this point? Any suggestions at all that can actually make this work like it used to?

I agree with @Jo-A .. I’ve been paying for a subscription that I can’t even utilize properly for an extended period of time and haven’t received compensation for that duration. Disappointed that this issue has yet to be resolved as I’ve used this platform since 2010.

Issue was fixed a few weeks ago, but definitely has resurfaced.

 

spotify has become unusable, again, on all of my iOS devices.

 

Normally I use Spotify every day to listen to music while I work, but this hasn’t been possible for 3-4 months now due to this ongoing issue.

 

Please fix this issue as soon as possible, it is getting harder to justify paying for the subscription when the app isn’t even usable to listen to music!

My Question or Issue

Since the most recent Spotify update the service is very laggy when trying to play an audio file both streaming and downloaded. Clicking the download button lags before starting. Rewinding or going forwards is also laggy. It takes at least 3 or more seconds for it to start, stop, or work. It’s not unuseable but there is a significant degradation in useability since most recent update. Uninstalling downloads sometimes never starts working.

This issue is something that is currently happening on my phone, and I've tried everything I could think of. This only appears to also happen if I have the music playing in the background, but my app refresh is on (I already have checked many times!). Please fix this!

For the past few weeks, I've had slow response to my Spotify controls that was fixed by logging in and out. 

 

But today, the app just stops abruptly and when I re-open it, I get the logo and I have to wait for the app to re-load and it usually drops me somewhere random in said podcast. 

 

It's beyond annoying to work a twelve hour shift and have consistent interruptions in my podcasts.

Took a video of what is happening to me; just to show how slooooooooooooooooooooooooooow exactly Spotfiy has been for me for the last ~3-4 months. Maybe Spotify will understand the enormity of the problem then. This video also doesn't show how the app will just quit playing randomly after 5-10 minutes, which sucks in particular when you're listening to a podcast. (FYI, there is audio in the video, but nothing starts playing till the ~1:45 mark lol).
