Ordering Songs In Search - Wrong Song Plays

Desktop version : 1.0.89.313 and 1.0.90.266

OS : Windows 10

Device : Laptop

To reproduce :

1 - Make a search : (e.g with the word : boat) / On songs results click ; See All

2 - in the results list try to play any song : it plays correctly.

3 - now order the list by Title or Artist or Album...

4 - in the ordered list try to play any song ; it plays the wrong song

Additional Note : It seems that the issue is also happening on Mac Desktop.

Hey everyone,

As the sorting feature for search results has been removed with the newest update, we'll be marking this as 'Not Right Now'. We have passed this on to the relevant teams and they're aware it.

There's an idea here for bringing back the sorting feature which you can vote for. The more votes an idea gets, the more likely it is that something will be (re-)implemented.

Thanks!

I can confirm this issue on Mac OS Mojave with Spotify 1.0.92.390.g2ce5ec7d.

Reinstalling did not resolve the issue.

Hey folks,

We've passed this on to our tech folks and they're looking into it.

If you're seeing this on the desktop client, please make sure to first try a clean reinstall of the app.

Thanks for posting this @user-removed 🙂

I have checked this out, and looks like logging out and logging back it worked out on my end.

Device Details:

  • HP Envy 15
  • Windows Version: Windows 10

Hope that helps!

Thanks @Billy-J!

I found that logging out then back into Spotify didn't help, but doing a clean reinstall did 🙂

The latest version of Spotify for Windows Desktop (1.0.92.390.g2ce5ec7d) no longer supports the sort feature on search results.  This is not the first time Spotify have disabled this feature.  Without the ability to sort, the search function becomes almost useless.  It's impossible to zero in on particular song variations.  Spotify, please bring the ability to sort by title, artist, album and time back.  The removal of the sort feature annoys me so much, if it's not back in a month, I'm going elsewhere for my music streaming.

How are you supposed to use search without sorting? That's like the most important feature of any music application. How in the first place can such thing get broken? A few weeks ago sorting caused a wrong song to play and now you cannot sort search results at all. I use search every day to discover new music, so currently Spotify is unusable for me. Having been a premium member for 10 years I'm seriously considering cancelling my subscription. I'm sure there are millions of others doing the same.

I got an email from support today explaining the following:

"We receive an update from our developers regarding this issue and we confirmed that this an expected behaviour due to the update on the search and filter feature of the app. We're sorry to hear you're unhappy with this changes.

We're always aiming to improve our features so we hope you’ll continue to use it and find it gets better in the future."

At this point it does not seem like Spotify cares enough to fix what is an obvious issue that makes one of its most important functions virtually obsolete. Anybody think this is completely unacceptable?

Absolutely unacceptable. Removing such a useful feature shows how much the development team are out of touch with Spotify users. Removing a very useful feature is not an improvement, it's the exact opposite. Worse, if that's the verbatim reply received from Spotify support, it shows how little understanding they have as well. Not to worry, 3 weeks then I cancel my subscription.
