Play queue on Android

I'm having issues with the play queue on the Android, which I would love some help on.

Basically, a lot of the time I use Spotify is on long journeys to work, or at home when doing other stuff.

So, i want to put on an album then add other albums to play after that one's done, so that I can just have it playing for ages and don't have to keep queueing up new albums each time one's finished.

But, say as an example I start playing Spirit Of The Beehive (as in Screenshot 1 below), then I want to queue up PC Worship (as in Screenshot 2 below) to play after Spirit Of The Beehive has finished, the rest of the Spirit of The Beehive album actually gets pushed to the end of the queue to be played after the PC Worship album's finished (as in Screenshot 3 below).

I know you can move the tracks in the queue around but it's pretty annoying to have to move tracks 1 by 1, when adding an album to the queue could just put it at the end of the queue, which would make much more sense anyway.

If this could be fixed it'd make the queue function much more user friendly.

Thanks.

Hey guys! Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

Spotify loves hearing your ideas on the Ideas board. Be sure to search for it first. Also, as a workaround, you can add 'Spirit Of The Beehive' to the queue and then add 'P.C. Worship' to have them play after each other. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Take care! 🙂

I get this on my android S7 too. It never used to work like this - seems like the feature is stuck between "up next" and "add to queue". A fix would be awesome 🙂

Sorry, it's me again. The play queue is broken in the desktop client too. Selecting the first track of an album plays the track but the rest of the album tracks are added to the bottom of the queue in a section "Next Up".

It definitelt seems that the switch from "up next" to "add to queue" has overlooked an important element and makes listening to a new playlist or album really difficult since only the first track is played and the rest are queued after anything already in the queue. This really does need fixing quickly. Thanks.

Hey @Hubo, It's bit paradoxical to offer a "work-around" for something which isn't an issue! Is this really how a play queue is supposed to work?

And are you seriously suggesting that, after having added something to the queue, selecting another album to play resulting in the first track of that album being played, followed by the remaining tracks in the queue and finally by the rest of the album is by design?

This behaviour is bugged and really needs fixing. Please don't dismiss it as an issue. Just to be clear on what happens, let me set out some steps to reproduce using the desktop client:

Select any album and add it to the queue to make sure the queue isn't empty

Select another album and select play

  • Check the queue:
  • The first track of the album you played will be under "now playing"
  • The remaining tracks of the album will appear at the end of the "Next up" section

This means that playing a new album is no longer possible without clearing the queue first - hardly a good user experience and surely not as intended by the devs (unless the devs don't want users to be able to switch to another album after listening to a track of the previous one) so, yes, this is a bug.

I would add that playing an album when the queue is empty then playing another album works correctly - the tracks from he second album replace the first album's tracks in the queue. This bug only occurs when you have added an album or playlist to the queue previously.

Hey @Joe!

Thanks for your explanation. I'll check with the team but I think it's expected to always play the queue first and then go back to what you were playing originally. I'll get back to you guys ASAP.

Thanks again! 🙂

Joe

Thank you 🙂

Hey @Joe!

Just got back from the team, it's expected that whenever you manually add content to your queue, it will be placed before anything that was queued. Your comments have been passed on to the right folks.

Thanks, have a great day. 🙂

Joe

That's certainly the way "Up Next" worked but I'm not convinced that "add to queue" should work the same way. Anyway, thanks for confirming @Hubo. I guess its time to take this over to ideas 🙂
