Playback issues: Songs going silent on Android app

We've received reports from Android users that the progress bar of a song keeps moving but there's no sound coming out. When the app is restarted, the progress bar goes back to the point where the song went silent.

Some users noticed that the issue doesn't occur when the features below are toggled off:

  • Gapless playback - found in Settings > Playback
  • Equalizer - found in Settings > Audio Quality

Hey everyone,

In case you're experiencing this issue, make sure to give it a like and provide the following info:

  • The day, time and time zone this has occurred on
  • Your device's OS version
  • The version of Spotify you're running
  • Does the app switch to the next song or is it stuck on the current one (with the timer still counting)?
  • Whether this occurs when playing from the mobile device directly or when connected to another device (Bluetooth, headphones, etc.)

If possible, feel free to include a video showing how things look from your end.

As always, rest assured we'll keep you posted here as soon as we have any new information to share, so Subscribe to the thread to stay tuned!

New phone, same problem.

  • Last occurrence May 15, 2025 6:30am AST
  • Google Pixel 7 pro.
  • Android 15
  • Spotify version 9.0.42.529
  • Canada
  • App stays on the same song, but no sound comes threw the speakers. Navigation bar is moving like nothing is wrong. Sometimes it stumbles back to "normal" other times I have to activate pause and unpause to temporarily fix the issue.
  • Only ever happens when I'm driving. Doesn't matter if I'm hooked up threw Bluetooth or AUX.
  • Music seems to stall when service is spotty, but I'm on a premium plan, so it shouldn't matter.

I've tried restarting the app, restarting the phone, uninstalling then reinstalling, I've tried the "clean" uninstall, and most recently I got a new phone AND IT'S STILL HAPPENING. WHY DO I PAY YOU?

My Question or Issue

I've had this problem ever since i bought a DAC to use wired headphones. I'm on Nothing Phone 3a and I bought a JCALLY JM12 and JCALLY JM6 Pro. The issue is when I play audio (either Spotify or Poweramp) it comes through my headphones as it should, but after a while the sound just stops, the song is still going and Spotify is still playing but no audio.

Thing I've tried:

-Disconnect and reconnect DAC: audio is back, after a while the issue comes back

-Disconnect and reconnect headphones: no audio at all

-Select This Phone as an output device in media player and switch back to Wired Headphones: audio is back usually for longer but eventually it cuts out again

-Reboot: nothing changes, the issue still present

It seems as if the phone doesn't recognize that there is no audio as the songs keep playing on my media player but there is no sound. Tested with 2 pairs of headphones Selnotes 7hz Zero and Warner SG, both pairs behave the same. Also both DACs behave the same way.

When playing audio from my phone speakers everything is well, no audio loss ever.

It looks like a software issue as the cutting out is not caused by mechanical bending or abusing the connection point. DACs and headphones combos work well on my laptop and don't disconnect.

Since then i discovered the issue is strictly Spotify related.

After a couple of seconds of playback on spotify the sound cuts out while the UI says the song is still playing. Switching output device to phone speakers and back fixes the issue for a while but every time eventually the sound cuts out again. Rebooting the device, restarting the app, redownloading the app, downgrading to an old version, everything works for a bit and after a few seconds the sound is gone again. I honestly don't know what else I can try. Now this alone wouldn't be as big an issue but when i try to play a song from my storage through Poweramp, the sound cuts out as well, now i know this is not a Poweramp issue because when i removed spotify from my phone Poweramp worked flawlessly

I have this issue too. Started a couple of months ago.

No sound when playing spotify via bluesound node N130, using phone or desktop or Samsung tablet. Says it's playing the track. Sometimes just ships to next track multiple times.

Samsung S10E, Android V 12.

Spotify V 9.0.46.496.

I have deleteand reconnected player in spotify connect, reinstalled spotify and Node app, cleared cache etc, reset wireless network and all other thing suggested.

Works if I connect to node via bluetooth.

Works in android auto.

Edit - I have discovered that if I disconnect my modem/router from FTTN (disconnect DSL cable) ( I have 25 Mbps FTTN plan) and allow the modem to switch to 4G backup, everything works fine - ie I can play spotfy via Bluesoind node (on either 2.4 or 5G wireless connection channel) using Bluesound app on mobile phone. As soon as I plug the DSL back in and modem swithches to FTTN, spotify cuts out on the app.

Unfortunately I have also been dealing with this issue for a few months now. It started happening at the end of 2024/early 2025, not exactly sure. Audio only songs will almost certainly go silent after a random number of minutes and once this happens there is no way back until the device is rebooted. The bar keeps going, just like described in the opening post. I noticed that songs with a videoclip included always play fine regardless, also after audio only songs have gone silent. It doesn't matter if the song is started locally or from another device.

Nvidia ShieldTV Pro 2019 / Android 11 / pretty much always on the latest version of Spotify / Premium account.

Reinstall Spotify, empty cache, logout/login didn't change anything.

Shield/Android configuration: Audio output is set to HDMI (auto), Stereo upmix and Dolby processing are off. Turning Match Content Audio Resolution (MCAR) and/or Play Inaudible noise over HDMI on/off does not make a difference.

I was able to adb logcat a moment where a track began silent:

- Track was started as videoclip

- Chose to play it audio only

- Audio track started playing (bar was moving), but without sound.

Any audio only track after this started playing silent until a full reboot of the ShieldTV.

I would be happy to attach the full log to this post, but I don't see how I can do that?

I noticed that once playback of audio only tracks falls silent, warnings are logged from AudioFlinger.

As I posted recently, I was having similar problems. Things worked if I disconnected DSL cable and used the modem router in backup 4G wireless mode. Upgrading my plan to a higher speed no help. Plugging LAN cable between music streamer and modem/router no help.

I bought a new (cheap) modem/router (previously using the one supplied by my ISP) - now all working fine (so far) !
