Playback issues: Songs going silent on Android app

We've received reports from Android users that the progress bar of a song keeps moving but there's no sound coming out. When the app is restarted, the progress bar goes back to the point where the song went silent.

Some users noticed that the issue doesn't occur when the features below are toggled off:

  • Gapless playback - found in the app's Settings > Playback
  • Equalizer - also found in Settings > Playback

Hey folks,

After quite a bit of investigating, the teams at Spotify were not able to pinpoint one specific root cause for the behavior. Via all the helpful comments of people here we found a couple of remedies for this and namely toggling off:

  • Gapless playback - found in the app's Settings > Playback
  • Equalizer - also found in Settings > Playback

These have been reported back to the tech teams and they are aware of this, yet right now in this thread we are receiving inconsistent reports of whether this is fixed. We would like to bring more clarity for both users and our developers, so we will move the discussion to a new place in our Help boards to gather fresh insights.

Cheers,

Having the same issue with the volume reducing to silent. The track still keeps playing. I am not using headphones or connected to an external speaker.

The phone is not on do not disturb or sleep modes.

I have tried clearing the cache, turning off volume control settings and contacting Google support and they have diagnosed it as a Spotify issue.

Turning of the seamless playback solved the issue (but that's a bit annoying), but it's back in version 9.0.50.416.

I'd love to see a solution...

me too. but it hasn't happened to me on a while. ( knock on wood veneer. )

Happens to me on spotify lite, the main app AND the web player. It plays one song, then the next one begins and fades out quickly. I thought it was an ad issue, ads keep trying to load then the song would start, after a couple of songs with no ads to interrupt them it went silent and problems began. It's really weird, after reading some comments I would agree and consider it some sort of (undeserving) temporary ban since the player/app wont matter. As I said, weird...

This issue goes back to 2019.  Still no resolution.  I've actually got a new phone and a new router.  It's still an issue even when I play from the web app.  It's consistent, regardless of the device or whether you uninstall and reinstall.  They know this, but will still ask you to jump through those hoops.  Even with the most current version of Spotify and Android.  It really doesn't matter.    You'll notice it most if you try to play from multiple speakers, like the Alexa Everywhere group.

So, six years later, and still no fix.  Well done, Spotify.

  • Spotify version 9.0.54.518

In the Spotify app, after playing a song, when using another app, the next song is selected, but it gets stuck in loading mode and the song does not play.
This occurs regardless of whether you are playing directly from a mobile device or connected to another device (Bluetooth, headphones, etc.).

The language used in the video is Japanese. Sorry. (I using DeepL.)
