Playback issues: Songs going silent on Android app

We've received reports from Android users that the progress bar of a song keeps moving but there's no sound coming out. When the app is restarted, the progress bar goes back to the point where the song went silent.

Some users noticed that the issue doesn't occur when the features below are toggled off:

  • Gapless playback - found in Settings > Playback
  • Equalizer - found in Settings > Audio Quality

Hey everyone,

In case you're experiencing this issue, make sure to give it a like and provide the following info:

  • The day, time and time zone this has occurred on
  • Your device's OS version
  • The version of Spotify you're running
  • Does the app switch to the next song or is it stuck on the current one (with the timer still counting)?
  • Whether this occurs when playing from the mobile device directly or when connected to another device (Bluetooth, headphones, etc.)

If possible, feel free to include a video showing how things look from your end.

As always, rest assured we'll keep you posted here as soon as we have any new information to share, so Subscribe to the thread to stay tuned!

Are all the family using the same device?

It would locate the issue if there were multiple devices in the same location having the same issue, Or not. A signal issue would likely occur on other devices at the same location. If only one of the devices were having the issue, We would have to look closely at that device for the issue.

My particular problem was the stream was passing through several devices before getting to the sound system. Any switching/interruptions/delays would break the stream and not reconnect automatically, the progress bar would continue until the cache ran out. Pairing the sound system directly to the internet cured the issue.

It would be telling if multiple devices at the same location were experiencing the same issue or not ??

Dva dny zpět se začala třeba druhá nebo třetí písnička přehrávat bez zvuku ale lišta běží že se přehrává ale není nic slyšet 😭

Currently on the Xbox Spotify App, when an ad plays it never goes away. The player stays on the ad even after the ad has played all the way through. The scroll bar stays at the end, with both skip buttons greyed out. Only force closing the app on all devices fixes this. I have gapless playback and EQ enabled. Im running the newest version of Spotify on Xbox Series X, Macbook Pro M1, and iphone iOS 18.3. I've contacted customer support, tried every method to fix this short of factory resetting my xbox, which im not willing to do so. Troubleshooting methods were:

-Uninstall/Reinstall Spotify on every device (Mac,Xbox,iOS)

-Hard reboot each device

-Clear cache on every device

-Restart Router

-Log out of Everywhere and Log back in

-Setting streaming quality to Low

What seems to be a constant is that the Xbox app is failing to switch from playing ads to song playback. Disabling gapless playback and EQ doesnt seem to fix the issue. Spotify should to dedicate time to stability rather than implementing more and more features.

Is the issue with all of those devices ? Or just Xbox? At the same time?

I've been following for some time. If it happens on I phone or mac at the same time It might indicate the problem is the source,or one is effecting the other.

If you are using Wifi direct to router, or I Phone data plan, it would be telling.

Bluetooth=BT. Is another path, Automatic connections get confused with several BT signals flying around.

Some devices may be paired BT wifi or wired directly to your router.

Others might be connected via BT to the mac browser, then another BT/wifi  link to the router,

This was my issue, also involving a Dish Box pass through. Any gap in the signal breaks the chain leaving the device waiting or searching trying to reconnect to a signal.

Not saying this is your issue but it is a place to explore before giving up.

Error started maybe a month ago.

Sound stops but indicator continues when continuing to next song; skipping forward >|  to next and then skipping back |< 2 times solves the problem...

Could be after 1-2 songs or 5-6.

Listening on headphones (BT)

I'm having this issue when using the browser version of Spotify on Opera GX and it's across all my accounts. The music will randomly just go silent and then my only options are to wait for it to stop being silent or to refresh the whole page and/or start over the track. It's become quite the annoyance to be honest and it seems to be clearly some kind of issue on Spotify's side rather than mine. I tried to test it with different audio devices just to be certain it was Spotify and not my Bluetooth Headset, turned out it must be an issue on Spotify's end. Please work on fixing this, it's getting irritating and making me want to deal with YouTube instead when I hate listening to music on YouTube and prefer Spotify. Thanks.

I'm Still watching the issue and ask the same question.

The device being used. The Opera GX is a gaming browser, unless I have the wrong info.

I would like to find out If the issue is the Spot signal, or the device receiving the signal ? The connected ad on's Or the signal itself?

If you had a second more common independent player , Laptop/cellphone/tablet etc. that was running fine with Spot in another location sitting next to your set-up but not connected to it. If it was a Spot, or Wi-Fi connection issue, it would likely display the same symptoms. I doubt that Spot designed their to run perfectly on every custom rig. The cross connected input devices caused my issues. Interrupting the signal. I have no experience with a Opera GX but isolating the problem is the only way to find the cure. Also, a weak or interrupted, access, modem, Wi-Fi, signal would create disconnects. If available, a Ethernet cable connection to the router might reveal a cause/cure.

Something to consider, "Wiki" The Opera GX limiter allows users to limit network, CPU, and memory usage to preserve system Resources!. Spot uses cache memory,

Hello, I'm having this issue on my Xiaomi 12t pro, music cuts off when the song is switched (by me or automatically). I need to stop and resume the track to make it work again. Only happens with my Bluetooth headphones. Issue disappeared when I switched off equalizer completely. Been using this app since 2021 and never had this issue, it started last year I guess.

Happening on Apple devices too.
