Podcast plays previous episode instead of the next

We've received reports that people been having issues with auto playing podcast episodes from oldest to newest. Podcast plays previous episode instead of the next one.

I've been playing the Bible Project podcast in oldest to newest order all year, no problem. Then, about a month ago, Spotify started playing a random song, usually from an artist or album in my library, every time I got in the car and connected to the bluetooth, instead of resuming the podcast or whatever I was last playing. Around the same time, it started playing the previous episode instead of the next episode when an episode finished. The first issue seems to have stopped, but I'm still having to go and manually select the next podcast episode every time.

I do not see where a fix was stated for this but it shows per spotify that it is corrected. Is there a fix for this or not.

It is not. Jeremy from Spotify lied about it being fixed and ignored the immediate follow up of people saying it is still an issue. Presumably because it was easier than actually fixing it, and there's clearly no mechanism at Spotify that keeps one of their employees from just claiming the users are all lying.

I'm sure Jeremy got a nice bump on his year end bonus for marking this issue with it's increasingly growing thumbs up "fixed." Good job Jeremy.

Sorry, I'm jaded from this experience. Spotify should be embarrassed, if only there was an adult there looking at this thread / issue.

Reopen this. I'm experiencing this bug on the Android app 8.9.32.624. It was playing a podcast from old-to-new, then suddenly today it started playing the next older episode when one finished. I looked at the queue, and it contained all the older episodes, from the one I had just listened to backwards to episode 1. All those episodes are marked as played.

I may have listened to music on the Windows version of the app between the last correct episode transition and the first incorrect episode transition. Then I returned to my podcast on Android, probably by tapping on the in-progress episode in my listening history. But I didn't do anything else.

This problem has come and gone forever.  How about making it a FEATURE where the user can select what direction to move in?  Some shows you can listen in either direction and it works fine (when episodes are standalone) and others definitely need to be heard from oldest to newest.  if we could just tell the app which direction we want, there would be no excuse for this BUG to persist where every few months the direction switches.

I've been trying to find another more recent post about this but I've noticed it for quite a while. I've been listening to a podcast from the oldest to newest and after stopping my podcast and playing later(for example a few hours or the next day), the order has changed and it starts playing episodes I've already listened to. I can make it go back to normal by clicking on a new episode then the one I was trying to listen to and it goes back into the correct order- the oldest to newest I have toggled it to filter by. This however is just a one-off fix as the next time I start listening again it has reversed again. I tried then listening from newest to oldest to avoid the hasle of changing back and episode to get the order I wanted but it seems to not matter, and only defaults to the opposite of what I've toggled it to when I open it again. Are there any more recent posts for this issue that I can refer to? Also the skip forward/backwards buttons are missing on the home screen/notification bar so I can only control my podcasts by unlocking my phone and going into the app which isn't idea when driving etc. I was wondering if this is a new update or whether it is supposed to be there still? I've also been looking in the problems posts/ideas posts to see anything similar that I can add to but it's a lot to filter through and nothing I've found is what I'm looking for. Thanks🙏
