Premium for students not letting me pay

Hello! I’ve used the 3 month trial before, and now that i’m a student and eligible for a student discount, It won’t let me pay, saying I have used the 3 month discount before. I’m just trying to get my 50% off, everything is verified and my bank account is fine. When I try to click on the error message that says “you aren’t eligible for this offer, but you might be eligible for the student discount instead”, it takes me to the same payment page, including the 3 month free trial in the beginning. i’ve tried using different browsers, on my mac and iphone. it doesn’t work

Thanks for sharing this here in the Community - we've passed this on to our tech teams who are looking into this!

 

If you're also having troubles upgrading for Premium Student without availing of the 3-month offer, we'd recommend adding your +VOTE to this Ongoing Issue.

 

It'd be also very helpful if you could try the steps below:

  1. Open an incognito or private window in your browser
  2. Copy/paste the link in a tab in this window: www.spotify.com/student
  3. Log in to your account and follow through the steps.

If that doesn't help, you can also try upgrading from this link in a new incognito window, log in with your Spotify account, then click "Change Plan" and select Premium for Students from the available plans.

 

If none of the above help, please share a screenshot of the error message you see (including the URL you're on when this happens) in a comment below so we can pass it along to the right teams. Just make sure that no private/sensitive info is displayed.

First, we just wanted to confirm that it should be possible to upgrade to Premium Student without having to pay for Premium Individual first.

 

We suggest you reach out to our Customer Support team here - they will be able to take a look backstage and see if there's something up with your account.

Thanks for reaching out! Sorry to hear you're unable to get the Premium Student without the Free trial. 

 

This is happening because you're using the same payment method to get the discount that you used for the Free trial in  the first place. Do you by chance have another payment method you could use to subscribe to Premium Student? 

 

After that you can update the payment details with your preferred payment method so you can use it.

I have got the exact same problem and unfortunately changing the method of payment is not an option for me.

Using the provided link does not help my problem. I attached the error message, it is in German though. It reads something like: "Looks like you already used the test offer. Therefore you can't use it again. You can still get the subscription with student discount anyway." Unfortunately though I can't seem to do exactly that.

Thanks for getting back to us with a screenshot that contains the exact error message!

 

Can you try the following:

  1. You must first be verified as a student through SheerID.

  2. Then, you must update your payment details so that the Premium Student price can be applied (click on Get Discount). It's best to do this on a Desktop device, in an Incognito Window.

  3. After that, to see if this worked out, you can check your subscription page.

Keep us posted if this error message pops up again or if something else prevents you from subscribing.

I have a similar problem. I want to go from Free to Premium Family. I get the same error as described above.
Choosing another payment method is also not an option for me. Isn't there a way to subscribe without the 3 months test period?

Hi, so recently I considered buying Spotify premium for an account I used a while ago. I am a student and my student discount was acknowledged and added to my account. However, because I have had an free trial of premium (3 months) a long while ago, I can't buy Spotify premium anymore since there is no option to choose a plan without the 3 months free. Moreover, I used my student discount on this account so I cannot change that to another account for another year. I tried opening in incognito browser, but that didn't work. I would love to resolve this issue as I'm fairly annoyed with this. Thanks in advance.
