Repeated songs on Discover Weekly

I have been a Premium member since October of last year and have been listening to the Discover Weekly playlist pretty much every week since then. But within the last couple of weeks I have noticed several songs popping up on the list that have been on prior Discover Weekly playlists. I did a search for other people talking about this and the last things I saw were from a year or two ago with answers saying some fix had been implemented, but it's still happening for me. Is there any update on this or are their further fixes being worked on? Any others still having this issue? Thanks!

Hi @rrouth, welcome to the Spotify Community!

This is odd. Keep in mind that all songs in your Discover Weekly are based on the music you save and play with  your account. In this case, we suggest that you add new songs to your account and follow new artists. This will help Spotify to give you a better list of new songs without repeating old ones.

If after this this you see the same behaviour in the following weeks, let us know if there's an specific song being repeated (take a screenshot if possible).

Let us know if you have any questions. Have a great day!

Hello @JulianDavid,

Thank you for your response. I do not always save all of the songs from my Discover list, only the ones I like the most, usually around 10 per week. I subsequently follow some of those artists but not all. But is it necessary to do these things to avoid repeats? I had hoped the algorithm would keep a list of all songs that had ever been on the list and avoid duplicates. I can't remember the specific songs from the last couple weeks I saw repeated but here is another example from this week's list:
Capture.JPGI'm like 95% sure the song "Jesusland" by Ben Folds (#9 on the list) has previously appeared in my Discover playlist. I think the Nada Surf song (#4) may have as well. I liked these songs fairly well but just didn't necessarily want to save them to my music at the time...perhaps it's not the worst thing to be asked to give them another listen but the way I noticed this happening at first was a repeat of a song that I thought was really annoying the first time I heard it and I immediately noticed it again haha. I would be happy with any of these songs coming up again in my daily mixes but I'd like the Discover list to be all new stuff as much as possible.

Thanks,

Richard

Spotify, It’s not the user’s fault. Just fix it so it doesn’t repeat songs on DW playlists. There are comments about this problem going back several years.

@Ethankingcole  is right, it's been going on for a while. For me one year at least. At first, it didn't bother because there where only one or two repeated tracks. But im in this forum because it has gone up to 30-40% of my DW list. Its very annoying. The business rule should be simple:

Discard all SONGS that have been played for more than 30 seconds OR in a playlist

pseudo-code:

SELECT ID FROM Tracks Where TrackID NOT IN (SELECT TrackID from Playlist.Songs)

jajaja im just messing around but please fix it.

Not repeated songs in my case, but songs that I have already listened to and liked within the previous month.
