Rewinding podcasts or listening to played podcasts not possible

At this time, I am unable to rewind or listen again to previously listened podcasts. When I try to play them again, the playlist/finished episode jumps to the next one. I couldn't find anything in support or help.

We don't have a timeframe for a fix, but hopefully we'll have an update soon.

My Question or Issue

I am seeing an issue on both Desktop and Mobile (Android) where I am unable to replay episodes of podcasts. When the episode has already been played and finished, attempting to replay the episode skips to the next unfinished episode.

 

Steps to reproduce (same for mobile and desktop):

1. Complete a podcast episode.

2. Attempt to play that podcast episode.

3. So long as there is an unplayed/unfinished episode after the selected podcast, the unplayed episode will play.

 

I have attached a screenshot that shows an episode that was completed (circled in red). Clicking that episode plays the next available (not listened to) episode - in this case the episode that is currently playing (green text).

 

Mobile Spotify App Version: 8.4.84.874

Can confirm that this issue occurs on my Android device (Nokia 6.1) too. It automatically skips to the next unplayed podcast. Clearing cache and saved data did not help fix the issue.

App version: 8.4.88.150

I have the same issue. Trying to play a podcast I've completed will skip, again and again, until it lands on one that still has progress.

 

I am running Android 8.4.89.515 on a Pixel

 

I have found a workaround, it sucks to make it work, but if I clear the cache and go to the episode and play it there is a single second of play time I can use to pause the episode and pull it back to the beginning. It's a pain and easily botched leading to a frustrating game of timing before it starts spazing out. I haven't found much help in similar threads so I figured I'd share my workaround. Hope it helps someone else

There have been some recent changes made to Podcasts in the last update for the Android app (Spotify version 8.4.90) - make sure to check out this thread here.

 

First, could you try updating the app to the latest version to see if this fixes the issue for you?

 

If not, then could you provide us with the following info:

  • Spotify version
  • device and OS version

Fixed! I aslo noticed that it never seems to remember where I left off on a podcast if I closed the app, this is fixed as well! Thanks y'all! So good to see devs so quick on the draw

Hi @Peter,

 

The issue seems to be fixed in the Android app, but not in the desktop (Windows) application.

 

To replicate:

Fully complete an episode of a podcast on desktop. It should continue to the next episode in the queue. Now, attempt to replay the just finished episode. It will not replay, but instead skip to the next, unfinished episode in the queue.

We tried replicating it on our end on the latest Spotify version for desktop (1.0.99), and everything seems to be working alright.

Workaround that worked for me: I marked particular episode as "played" in the menu; then I hit play on that episode and it started to play properly.
