My Question or Issue

When using my phone in the car I put it in a car holder. The holder is horizontal in order to have better view for navigation etc. I use spotify also a lot in the car but when using the playing music I'm not able to rotate the screen but the playlists dose rotate

Hey everyone,

We really appreciate your reports on this.

We just wanted to let you know that the right folks have taken a look at this for you, and what you're seeing right now is explained here.

Right now, we're not able to provide an exact timeline for a change, but we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app up to date to ensure you're on the latest version with fixes and new features.

Thanks!

Really? Unsolved After 3 years?

I just started listening music via streaming app. I tested Deezer in the past month.

Today I started testing Spotify. After one car drive I landed in this community forum seeing that such a basic function is gone for over 3 years. There was no negative aspect regarding Deezer, exept the price.

and.... good luck reading the lyrics in landscape mode...😋

**bleep**!!!! nothing yet?
we are in 2022..!

This started when spotify removed certain "outdated" (they were not) APIs.
For example:
I had the phone connected to my 3rd market radio. Since spotify released Car Thing, this connection failed with the following update. What a coincidence. I believe they removed some other functions like landscape in the process, to push sales for their new product.

If the responsibles would just admit it, I could some how live with that.
But telling us, they will look into that, but dont know when, for 3 years...

Lying to your loyal customers is utterly stupid and will backfire.

The best part of this is that the useless "car thing" failed miserably and went out of production. What a shocker. But they still won't add landscape back in. I have now switched to youtube music and I am very happy I did. Easy transfer and it works well in the car

3 years and Spotify has still not resolved this issue. Where does my $15/mo go? Because it needs to go to more devs so an issue as simple as landscape can be handled in a more timely manner...

So finally I found the App "Screen Orientation Control" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mm2d.android.orientationfaker), which is able to overrule stupid portrait mode of Now Playing screen in landscape orientation on my Lenovo Smart Tab M8 (TB-8505FS). Of course this is just a workaround and Spotify should fix this issue.

@goforityup that works. I'll take that as workaround, thank you.

Just to clear thing up for anyone else who looks into this...
This a screenshot from Feb 2021 and the screen I'd like to have back in spotify.

What I get today is the below:

If you press the arrow, you get this

And this is the 3rd market app @goforit mentioned ->

"Not right now" for almost 4 years...

You would normally guess that "Not right now" means that things will be eventually fixed, but this is Spotify...

I remember that before this ticket was made it even worked fine on phones. They just broke it and then haven't been able to fix it in 4 years. If there was ticket like that for development in my workplace, then I would be called utterly incompetent for not being able to fix something so small in so many years.

Weird is that this one does not actually appear when you search in ongoing issues with filter "Not right now". Even then it seems to have one of the most votes in it's category, but still zero progress in years. Makes me wonder if the UI guy was fired 4 years ago and now noone is able to handle that "legacy" code to make screen orientation work again in that one view.
