Shared playlists & audiobooks not working on Kids/Managed accounts

We’ve been receiving reports that playlists and audiobooks shared with Kids & Managed accounts are not playing. Some are seeing an error message saying “this is currently unavailable”.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your patience while we were looking into this with our teams! Your comments in this thread haven't gone unnoticed.

We got news that the issue with sharing content to Kids accounts is now fixed, just make sure you're running the latest app version.

We can also confirm that all Audiobook content, including Audioplays/Hörspielen, is unavailable for Managed accounts, as it’s a music-only experience. Audioplays & Hörspielen are types of audiobooks that could be uploaded as either music (under Music catalog) or as proper audiobooks. They are no longer available in Managed accounts and you might see an error message when trying to play them.

We appreciate all your reports on this and for sharing your thoughts on the Community.

Take care!

My Question or Issue

Hello, I have a Spotify Premium Family Account and three Kids Accounts for Spotify Kids. I want to use the shared playlist function and set it up already. The playlists are public, shared and not podcasts. Unfortunately in one account the "shared content" setting shows up, but took over 24h to do so. The other two are not shown at all. My impression is, that the sync takes veeeerry long. Can you solve this issue please? It is not an option re-login x times to force a sync (which also didn't work yet). Thank you in advance!

Update: Now if I click in the parental section on "Shared Playlist" it just shows an empty page without any selection option at all...

My Question or Issue

Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing an issue since the recent changes in Spotify. I’m on a Family plan, based in Germany, using a Pixel 6a running Android.

Previously, I could create a private playlist on my main account (account manager), add both music and audiobooks, and then share that playlist with my child’s Kids account. This worked perfectly for both music and audiobooks until recently.

Now, it seems to only work for music. Existing playlists that contain audiobooks (which used to work) can no longer be opened from the Kids account and show an error message: “Oops! This is currently not available.”

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Cleared the cache
  • Reinstalled the app
  • Created a new playlist: adding a song works fine, but when I add audiobooks, they don’t appear in the playlist.

Is this due to a change in Spotify’s terms, or is there a way to fix this issue on my end?
For reference, here’s an example of an affected album:

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks, Daniel

Hello.

It doesn't seem to be only at Spotify Kids. My daughter is a "managed plan member" and since today, she can no longer play audiobooks like TKKG, Fuchsbande, Drei???, etc. Music works fine.
Everything works normally on my and my husbands mobilephones.

I created another "managed plan member" to test if this problem is only at daughter's account, but the problem exists there as well.

This is a serious bug, and I hope they fix it very, very quickly.

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out.

We're currently checking with the relevant team about this issue and we'll let you know as soon as we have any news to share.

Cheers,

Hey there! Similar problem on my end: Since today, most of the audio plays my kid used to listen to on their managed account seem to have become unavailable, with the error message "the tracks on this release are not available" being displayed when selecting the albums in question. The content remains available through my regular account though, so apparently not a licensing issue. I am able to replicate the issue when opening the managed account on my own phone, so it doesn't seem to be related to the hardware and/or app version. All content is enabled in the account management section, no artists or songs blacklisted. No mention of death or any other touchy subject in the album title, so I suppose the algorithm shouldn't be filtering the album out on those grounds. I tried reinstalling the app to tackle the issue, no luck so far. I'd be grateful for any hints as to how this can be sorted out. Thanks!

Same issue here. Two kids with managed accounts who suddenly can't access their content anymore. Even though it's downloaded to their library. Same content plays fine, on the same device, if we switch to a non-managed account.

Got the same issue here since yesterday. Family Premium account in Germany – all shared playlists show "Hoppla! Dies ist gerade nicht verfügbar." ("Oops. This is not available at the moment.")

I follow 20 children's artists. In my adult account, I can view and play all tracks. in my child's account, I can follow the artist (and I do) but for every album it tells me "content not available" or "the tracks on this release are not available".

Funny thing. 3 nights ago when I set up the family plan and the account everything worked. the next day - nothing. I have deleted the app and reinstalled. I have logged out multimple times and logged in again. I have deletedthe account and re-created it. Same result.
