Shared playlists & audiobooks not working on Kids/Managed accounts

We’ve been receiving reports that playlists and audiobooks shared with Kids & Managed accounts are not playing. Some are seeing an error message saying “this is currently unavailable”.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience and we appreciate the feedback on our Family Plans! While non-music content isn't currently in our plan for Managed Accounts, we're always listening to our community and will keep users informed about future updates to Family plans.

Spoken word content that had been uploaded as music tracks was previously available in managed accounts and this was a technical issue. This content has now been removed as managed accounts are designed as a music only product.

The managed account is designed to offer parents or guardians the ability to create accounts for young listeners (under 16 year olds in Germany) directly within the main Spotify app. Managed accounts provide a music-only listening experience that Family Plan managers can control via their settings in several ways. Because this experience includes a very large, dynamic catalog, managed accounts are limited to music only.

Spotify Kids offers a curated music and audiobooks experience for children within a standalone app. The content within Spotify Kids is hand-picked by a team of editors rather than through access to the entire Spotify catalogue. Both Managed Accounts and Kids App are features available to Spotify Premium Family account holders.

What's completely **bleep**ed up about this:

There is kids' content on Spotify which is not available in either kids or managed accounts, only in the normal adult accounts - which, according to Spotify rules, you need to be at least 13 years old to use. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!!

Folks I'm fed up after all this hustle and taking care of my sons and their stream-watching through spotify. They were so hooked that we needed to control them 24/7. With the managed accounts came the solution I thought - WRONG! So I now just switched to apple music - family plan is even cheaper and no hustle having any videos on your child-accounts. Thats it. You need to act to make spotify feel that they've disappointed families all over the worls by putting greed over mental health. Spotify is becoming the next youtube which we dont need.

Apple Music has a very simple way of importing Spotify-Playlists and media directly in the app. I had a lot of stuff and nearly everything is found on apple music as well. Took me 30 Minutes because my library was so large. But it is VERY Simple to switch.

Bye Spotify ... you had the chance.

I think we need to clearly distinguish between Kids Accounts and Managed Accounts here.

While audio plays (Hörspiele) seem to work for Kids Accounts (in the standalone Kids App), they do not work for Managed Accounts within the main app. As Spotify explained in their response, this is an intentional "music-only" restriction.

This is a major issue for parents who want to use the main app for its parental controls but still need access to children's audio stories. If you are not happy with this "solution" either, please support and vote in this thread to make our voices heard:

@MarkUswin565 You're right, managed accounts and Spotify kids are two different products. However, Spotify Kids is highly curated, not all radioplays / audio plays which you can access on normal accounts are available here. We tried the kids app and couldn't find several of our sons' favourites on there, which is why we switched to the managed accounts in the family plan.

In addition, podcasts aren't available in either managed or kids accounts. Which is ridiculous considering Spotify themselves are producing kids podcasts!

Thanks for the update and clarification. Good to hear the Kids account issue is fixed, and the explanation about audiobooks on Managed accounts helps clear up the confusion. Appreciate the transparency.

Hi @Maria , can you please clarify if/how it's possible to share a podcast with my kid's account on Spotify Kids?

I'm specifically trying to share the "Magic Woods" podcast with my kid. I've added episodes to a public playlist and shared the playlist with my kid's account in Spotify Kids, but my kid gets an error that says "Oops! That's not available right now."

The same process of sharing a playlist works for a playlist with k-pop music in it, but not for podcasts. Unfortunately, we primarily want a Spotify Family Premium account specifically so that our kid can listen to podcasts on their own account/player and have some limited music searching/browsing in a safer environment. If we can't give our kid access to their favorite podcasts, Spotify Kids simply won't work for us.

Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks, Sean

Ok Spotify, I’ve been a paying costumer since you started in Germany. Just opened a tidal account, they offer similar connectivity to my old Sonos speakers without airplay. The kids now check if all relevant content is there, looks good so far.

Your ridiculous decision to exclude Hörspiele listed as music albums from managed accounts is just to much, hope you find many adult listeners for teufelskicker and ??? Kids.

not allowing parents to disable YouTube like content is unacceptable for me and probably most responsible parents.
last but not least you support here in the forum and via CC agents is amongst the worst I’ve experienced: from hang on, we are on it to everything works as expected…

not that you care but even as a stakeholder in Spotify stocks this decision makes absolutely zero sense.

bye

@onesecondupndown is Apple music a real alternative when only working on Apple devices?

fischkopp1403

Seriously? Managed accounts without ??? and other audio books for kids. I strongly assume that they are the main reason for parents to get additional accounts for their kids. Please show us the user tests and the analytics data that prove my assumption wrong. There should be a big warning (!) next the documentation for Managed Accounts. I fall into the trap, converted my sons account to a managed account, 7 days passed, and now I cannot convert it back. This is totally unacceptable. You could have learned from years of bad reviews for the Spotify Kids app in the App Stores. At least, provide the option to convert it back anytime.

@fischkopp1403 Have a look at this post, which addresses the specific problem you are talking about:
