Since last update Spotify keeps disconnecting from Chromecast

My Question or Issue

 Since latest updates streaming to chromecasts have stopped working from the Android phone, it plays a song, then 30-40s into the next one it disconnects.
It can be resolved by having the desktop client running on a machine in the network and you utilize the phone app purely as a remote. But on its own its not capable of keeping the connection running anymore.

@Katerina The workaround was casting from PC first, then controlling it normally on the phone. After I did that, I was able to cast again.

Exact same issue with regards Chromecast. I also have exactly the same issue with a Spotify Connect device. The android phone will no longer work.  Device - Cubot X19 on Android Pie.  Spotify connect device - majority Fitzwilliam. Spotify -  8.5.11.762

Fixed for me in very latest Android Spotify version, 8.5.12.758. this fixes Spotify connect and Chromecast. There were two updates that came out in very quick succession, may even have been Monday and then Tuesday.

Looking at this forum it seems there's been issues with Chromecasts/Google home for many years now and it's still not sorted. I've got a Chromecast Audio, and several Google Home devices, all Chromecast enabled and Spotify is intermittent at best. It just doesn't recognise the devices most of the time.

 

All other apps that are slated to work with Chromecast work perfectly so it's certainly a Spotify problem, and quite unbelievable that it still hasn't been fixed. Most of the other apps that work with it are free. With Spotify I'm paying for a premium subscription, it is a paid service, and they've had long enough to get this right. I'm currently trialing Tidal, and that works perfectly with Google/Chromecast, so it's likely time to say goodbye to Spotify, it's a shambles.

Still unable to connect from desktop version. Flakey on other devices, sometimes unable to connect or just stops working. And totally agree with previous commenter but can't see upvote button for some reason

@fresh-ear and @beefybanana - could you let us know the exact Spotify version your device is running?

 

@jrncop - it looks like your Spotify version is not up-to-date. Do you mind updating it to the latest version?
