Smart Shuffle keeps turning itself on

Hey folks!

Some of you have reported that Smart Shuffle is automatically turning itself on again after being switched off. This is now being looked into.

Note: The Smart Shuffle feature works on a playlist-by-playlist basis. If you turn it off on one playlist, it doesn't mean that it is turned off for all playlists.

We'll keep you posted 🙂

Hey folks,

Just a heads-up that you can now toggle whether Smart Shuffle is available on your mobile apps from the app settings!

  1. Tap your profile picture at the top.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Select Playback.
  4. Switch Enable all play modes off and you're good to go!

Stay tuned for updates in regard to the other platforms 🙂

As for this Ongoing Issue thread, our tech folks are doing their best to figure out the root cause of the issue itself.
We'll keep you posted!

Is this an issue that they tried fixing with the last two updates? I had zero issues before using Smart Shuffle, now, it doesn't work at all. I click on it and nothing happens. I enable it and disable it and enable again, nothing. I have gone every possible troubleshooting, cleared cache, store, uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted my phone etc, still broken and doesn't work at all. Long or short playlists makes no difference.

I am using a Sony Xperia 5

Android 11

It doesn't work on my laptop either that's running Windows 10.

For me Smart Shuffle is persistent and I can't switch it off even though I've already restarted and cleared the cache multiple times.

It also only happens to one of my playlists. It doesn't matter how many times i click "disable Smart Shuffle" it still happens. Happens on both devices: Desktop Software using my local speaker and Desktop Software using external Sonos speaker.

But I found a hacky resolution to switch it off through my Mobile App.

My Question or Issue

2 songs from a playlist will play, then the next songs that play are not songs I have downloaded. The AI shuffle is NOT on, just regular shuffle. And I am not at the end of the playlist. I have googled help for this and it is of no help.

Left feedback before, but shuffle is **bleep**ed. Go onto my playlist, play, and it’s auto shuffled regardless. Try to change it, it’ll show it’s not on shuffle and then revert back soon as I swipe away. When I’ve played long enough and it finally goes in order, it goes the opposite way🤣

it seems to happen to a lot a people with premium (which is also me). isn't there like a faulty error in the code perhaps?

Also cannot turn it off. I have Premium and cannot find the setting mentioned in the "solutions". In the car or listening with headphones, it's fine. When listening through Alexa, I cannot find any way to turn it off. Give us full control to turn this Smart Suffle **bleep** off! It does a terrible job of recommending songs!

I have the same issue and even when I try to turn it off, it will remain on even after trying to click it off multiple times. I advise moving that "smart shuffle" option elsewhere entirely, not tucked within the same command for regular shuffle. I personally have no use for the smart shuffle when listening to my own playlists. The whole reason I make playlists is to listen to songs I specifically put in there. If I wanted to listen to songs I didn't place in a playlist, I would go to a radio station. Which is another source of contention that I know I'm not alone in either: I don't like that radio stations now include a majority of songs I already have saved on playlists. The reason I listen to radio stations is to hear new music, not music I already know of and listen to all the time. Ultimately I think you should go back to how radios and playlists were originally designed—to be separate and different, not all intermeshed together.

I have just started getting this problem today. I get shuffle turned on through all my devices, iPhone, laptop, carplay. I can just any playlist or just an album and it wont play the next song, it just randomly shuffles to a completely different artist. So annoying. How do I fix this? I've looked back on this thread and doesn't seem to be anything that works.

Terribly annoying. Also my regular shuffle is shuffling the same songs for the past month in a queue like manner.

I'm no longer seeing this issue but I took no steps to address it and I don't recall making any other changes to my system, other than bringing some new machines online.  Go figure.
