Smashing Pumpkins song copyright infringement.

The Smashing Pumpkins' song Bullet With Butterfly Wings is clearly taken by a "group" named Blue Light Special. The song name for it. Is "Still Just a Rat in a Cage". Clearly. I do not own this media. But I believe this is a problem.

The song in question is still on Spotify, are there more fake artists as well?

I too came across this song in my "Discover Weekly" today... Blue Light Special seems to even be two different bands on Spotify? Seems fishy to me...

This Song is still on Spotify and was recently suggested in my Discover Weekly.

Not only is the song still on Spotify and showing up on discover, they also recently posted a new song entitled "Zipper Blues" which is exactly the same as 1979 by The Smashing Pumpkins. This is getting a little ridiculous.

So either the joke is going over my head, or some people here are missing the fact that they're covers..?

nopenoidea

I totally agree, this is odd. If it was under the proper name, it'd be a cover, it's clearly not.

gpgrocker

No it's definitely a cover. Listen to the two songs side by side, Blue Light Special's is different. Covers aren't required to be named the same as their source material. Finally, this isn't even a spotify issue. This would be up to The Smashing Pumpkins (or their producer for the song) if they'd want to, which they wouldn't as this is still completely legal.
