Songs keep skipping and pausing randomly

For the past month or so, spotify keeps pausing and skipping songs randomly without any logical pattern on my Samsung A5. The app will be closed, and phone screen locked, in my pocket, and the song will pause, then play, then skip a few, then pause again. I pay monthly for spotify and it's getting very frustrating that I can no longer listen to the music I have paid for. I'm not sure if it's related, but the Google voice command/recognition system would randomly pop up when spotify pauses. Since disabling Google that part seems to have stopped. However, spotify keeps pausing and skipping without reason. I have tried wiping all cached data already and that didn't help at all. 

 

Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Looking into this, it seems like everyone is having a slightly different experience. The root cause of these playback issues seem to be related to specific set ups, which is difficult to solve as a group. 

 

It looks like a clean reinstall has solved this for most, and for some new headphones were the solution. If you haven't tried a reinstall, we'd recommend following the steps here

 

If you're still having the same trouble, we'd recommend creating a new thread. Someone will jump in to help shortly after.

I had the same problem back a while ago, and this actually helped me. 

 

(If battery saver mode is on, try turning it off. Also try excluding spotify from android's doze:

Open the Settings app on your phone (Pull down the notifications shade, and tap the gear in the upper right corner, or find “Settings” in the App Drawer.)
2. Tap Battery.
3. Tap the menu button and choose “Battery optimization.”
4. Tap the dropdown menu at the top of the screen and select “All apps.”
5. Scroll down to Spotify - tap it and select "Don't Optimize")

Can you give us some more info about this issue? Let us know:

 

  • Can you let us know if this started happening after a specific update or event? 
  • Can you let us know what operating system and Spotify version you're currently using?
  • Does this happen when trying to stream music through 3G/4G or on WiFi?

  • Does the same thing happen under Offline Mode?
  • Is this happening across all your devices?

Also, have you tried what @Nay16 suggested?

Hi there, nayer369uy's suggestion didn't help at all unfortunately. Spotify has now started adjust the volume randomly also, usually putting it up to maximum. 

 

As for the questions:

Can you let us know if this started happening after a specific update or event?  - not that I noticed

Can you let us know what operating system and Spotify version you're currently using?  - Android version 7.0, Samsung experience version 8.1, spotify version 8.4.45.633 armV7

 

Does this happen when trying to stream music through 3G/4G or on WiFi? - I do not stream music, I only ever listen to downloaded playlists in offline mode.

Does the same thing happen under Offline Mode? Yes

Is this happening across all your devices? I only use my phone for spotify.

Thanks for getting back to us with this info.

 

Let's try completely reinstalling the Spotify app before testing it out again. Also, have you noticed if this happens when you change the gapless or crossfade settings from the app?

Hi Original Poster,

 

This has happened to me before. Are you wearing headphones while listening? Sometimes broken headphones (with a piece that allows you to control volume/pause the music) will enable accidentally and pause or skip songs. I am an iPhone user, but this could possibly happen with Samsungs too. Hope this maybe helped!

Hi there,

 

I did a fresh install of the app and it fixed the issue for about 24 hours, then it started again. I tried changing the gapless and crossfade settings and the issue still persists. I have also tried different headphones, but that didn't change anything either.

Just to confirm, have you seen any pop-ups or messages on the Spotify app when it starts skipping or pausing?

 

Also, do you happen to have a different Android phone you could use to see if your account behaves the same?

No message pops up at any point in time. Unfortunately I do not have any other mobile devices I can try the account on.

In this case, try using the Sign Out Everywhere button in your Account Overview. After that, reset your password here.

 

If the issue persists after that, let us know.
