My Question or Issue

Hi. We have 3 Chromecast Audio devices on my home network connected via a single Motorola MG7315 modem/router. All devices are confirmed to be running the latest firmware. We cast Spotify from either an iPhone XR or iPhone 8 running iOS 13. We have the latest Spotify app version on our phones. All Chromecast audio devices have <60 dBm signal strength. Lately we've been having an issue where Spotify is randomly dropping the connection to the Chromecast Audio devices. It doesn't matter whether one of us is casting to a single Chromecast Audio device or group of devices. But if a group of devices is playing, they all stop together when the casting "drops." Sometimes the issue happens several times within in an hour, requiring us to reconnect the device within the Spotify app each time to resume casting. It's super frustrating! The drops seem to happen at random, and it doesn't matter which phone is casting.  The phones can be sitting untouched/locked when the casting is interrupted, so it doesn't seem like obvious app interference on iOS. We only have ~8 devices connected to the home network, and there's nothing out of the ordinary about them (e.g., a TV, a couple of iPhones, MacBooks, Chromecast Audio devices), so it's not obvious that there would be device interference. Please help with ideas! The Spotify/Chromecast Audio setup had been working really well for a couple of years before this issue started presenting itself a couple months ago. Thank you so much!

Hey folks,

Thank you for reporting this issue to us.

We just wanted to let you know that the right folks are looking into this. We'll be marking this as NRN, as our teams have already rolled out several improvements to improve the experience reported. As we're always rolling out improvements in the app, we'd recommend making sure to keep all your devices up to speed with any updates so you won't miss the latest.

We're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, but we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app up to date to ensure you're on the latest version.

Thanks again!

Having this problem for a few days now. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S9 w Android 10, Spotify 8.5.54.869. I'm not having the same problem with any other apps in Chromecast, but with Spotify it's now constant - most of the time it only works a few seconds before shutting down.

Hi All,

I have been a fairly vocal critic of this very frustrating issue for a long time now and it’s obvious that it’s a far reaching issue affecting numerous people.

however along with my complaints I have to also admit that over the last 2 weeks, my experience using Spotify and Chrome Cast Audio has improved considerably.

During this time I have been able to almost get through an entire playlist without losing connection. A great achievement considering it was previously hard to get through one song.

I’m also happy to say that I’m getting a more success out of Spotify app on Apple Watch. Previously it was completely useless, but it now actually works quite well - 60% of the time.

I’m still having the annoying issue of the amount of time it takes to connect to a CCA device, and usually required 2 attempts before it succeeds. Integration with Amazon echo is still much superior in this regard.

However, what concerns me is the why am I seeing an improvement and yet other people

are still having issues? What reason could it be that suddenly makes one persons experience better than another.

And if efforts have been made to resolve the issues (at least for me) why hasn’t anyone from Spotify communicated what was done? And more importantly why have these solutions not been applied in a manner that benefits everyone?

im worried more when it comes to intermittent problems because these are the ones that usually never get fully resolved.

anyone from Spotify care to shed some light on these questions and concerns?

cheers,

P.

Hey guys, quick fix if you rely on the Chromecast spotify feature -- use the Spotify web version and Chrome browser's inbuilt casting feature, rather than the Spotify phone app, seems to not be plagued by the drop out problems, at least for me.

Hello,

Spotify Connect is totally broken since 3 days, in every configuration I have tried:

- Galaxy S8+ to Shield TV

- Galaxy S8+ to Google Home Mini

- Windows 10 App to Google Homme Mini

- Windows 10 App to Shield TV

It worked well since 3 years. Every apps are up to date.

Experiencing the same issue here. I've had it before, but it was gone for some months. Since a couple of weeks this same problem returned. Pretty much in every song connection drops. Have tried a fresh reinstall and rebooting all my devices, but that doesn't help. Last time this happened I was at the verge of cancelling my subscription, bc casting is the way I use Spotify 90% of the time. I hope there will be a quick fix for this.

We’ve had the same issue for the last couple of months. Extremely annoying. As a last recourse I’ve tried Youtube Music, which works flawlessly. Patience is running thin here and unless a viable solution is offered there are no options other than changing permanently.

A note on reinstalling the app. I've got this issue on a P30 Pro and a brand spanking new S20 Ultra. Ergo reinstalling probably won't fix the actual problem. I can't start playing music from one of my big playlists. It has to be a smaller playlist.

I might have found a fix for my issue. I rebooted the Chromecast Audio through the app and all the ones and with problems it seemed to fix the issues. I tried a hard reboot prior by unplugging and replugging it with no dice.

1 Chromecast Audio connected to a pair of active bookshelf speakers. Playback stops after each song, sometimes in the middle of songs. Connect switches back to phone, but paused, I have to manually restart the music.

Longtime Spotify user hoping that you all get to the bottom of this! Dropped connections have started happening within the past few months for me on all devices listed below. It does not seem to happen when I start playing directly from the Mini though voice commands —it's only when I'm "casting" Spotify from my phone to a device. Even when it's going OK playing on a Chromecast, just the act of opening the Spotify app on my phone will sometimes make the connection drop.
