Spotify + Chromecast Audio Connection Keeps Dropping

My Question or Issue

Hi. We have 3 Chromecast Audio devices on my home network connected via a single Motorola MG7315 modem/router. All devices are confirmed to be running the latest firmware. We cast Spotify from either an iPhone XR or iPhone 8 running iOS 13. We have the latest Spotify app version on our phones. All Chromecast audio devices have <60 dBm signal strength. Lately we've been having an issue where Spotify is randomly dropping the connection to the Chromecast Audio devices. It doesn't matter whether one of us is casting to a single Chromecast Audio device or group of devices. But if a group of devices is playing, they all stop together when the casting "drops." Sometimes the issue happens several times within in an hour, requiring us to reconnect the device within the Spotify app each time to resume casting. It's super frustrating! The drops seem to happen at random, and it doesn't matter which phone is casting.  The phones can be sitting untouched/locked when the casting is interrupted, so it doesn't seem like obvious app interference on iOS. We only have ~8 devices connected to the home network, and there's nothing out of the ordinary about them (e.g., a TV, a couple of iPhones, MacBooks, Chromecast Audio devices), so it's not obvious that there would be device interference. Please help with ideas! The Spotify/Chromecast Audio setup had been working really well for a couple of years before this issue started presenting itself a couple months ago. Thank you so much!

Hey folks,

Thank you for reporting this issue to us.

We just wanted to let you know that the right folks are looking into this. We'll be marking this as NRN, as our teams have already rolled out several improvements to improve the experience reported. As we're always rolling out improvements in the app, we'd recommend making sure to keep all your devices up to speed with any updates so you won't miss the latest.

We're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, but we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app up to date to ensure you're on the latest version.

Thanks again!

I am also experiencing this issue on both my iPhone and my wife’s iPhone. Pandora casts fine without interruption but Spotify stops/disconnects about every 30 seconds. Very frustrating!

This has been a minor problem for years from time to time, but something changed in the past months that made this happen much more frequently than before. Unfortunately I think I'll have to give up Spotify after 7 years of premium membership if this does not get better anytime soon.

Everytime I try to cast to my Google nest mini I can see the device show up in the device menu but when I press it just keeps flashing until nothing happens. Weird thing is; if I go in to Goole Home app on my phone while the Spotify is trying to connect to the device and I choose Google Nest mini in the Google Home app, then choose volume and jiggle it a bit THEN it starts working.

It's really weird.

I have same issue with a Chromecast Google Audio, and Sonos as well.

The cast feature on Spotify worked great for the last couple of weeks then all of a sudden it's broken as **bleep**.

I've tried re installing the app on my phone. Hardware reset the google nest mini. Re-linking my account. Changing to wives account. Tried different WIFI...All devices are firmware up-to-date. All on a good Mesh Network of 250 mb Fiber connection..and still. It doesn't work!

It's insanely frustratring and makes me consider leaving Spotify all together.

Youtube Music has no issues.

Tune In; no issues.

Swedish Radio app; no issues.

It's just Spotify.

Please, please advice....before it's too late.

spotify chromecasts in my home disconnect frequently since ~june.

There is almost always a lag between songs.

Sometimes the song "continues to play" according to the app but no sound comes from speakers. This tends to happen after a few minutes and is NOT related to ios/android app + battery optimisation.

This happens no matter how I initiate the session (PC, phone, google mini, chromecast tv remote)

Tried all suggested steps.

Conclusions:

Spotify tends to have issues annually for a couple of months with chromecast and it seems like spotify side, though the blame is transferred ususally.

This ongoing issue needs to be properly addressed. Maybe more proactive chromecast development is needed.

Spotify are never going to bother fixing it, problem has existed for years,
the Chromecast is discontinued anyway and they clearly haven't a clue how
to make it work.

Entire app is a half baked mess only works well for someone listening to
music through phone speakers on a bed as they pre drink prosecco and listen
to Adele. For everyone else, forget it.

I bought a Yamaha Musiccast equivalent of the Chromecast and it works a
'bit' better but Spotify is still the handicap.

I will be playing something just fine, and the speakers will just disconnect, particularly at the end of a song, and pause. This seems to happen perhaps more frequently when playing random.

No voice commands
Spotivy Connect used to work perfect on the C338 but Chromecast stopped to support it. Since then I have to use chromecast with less sound quality and a terrible experience.
Time and date: it happens all the time

The issue also happens when I play from my macbook pro. Therefore I think the problem isn't in my playing device but in chromecast.
