Spotify + Chromecast [Audio] Experience = awful

In the last couple of months, Spotify's Chromecast support on Android has gone to **bleep**.

Issues I've been experiencing:

1) Volume control *only* works when the Spotify app is on-screen. It used to be that when you put Spotify in the background, volume buttons would still adjust the chromecast volume. This hasn't worked at all in months.

2) Once I've connected Spotify to Chromecast, anywhere between 1 and 5 songs later, the synchronization between my phone and the chromecast will break. While the Chromecast will continue playing songs from the next up list, my phone will be stuck displaying one of the first five songs. Back, pause, next buttons do not work, volume control won't work. The only way to fix it is to force resync between app and phone: either choose "this phone" to be the playing device, which turns off the Chromecast, and to then choose to connect to the Chromecast again; OR actually close the Spotify app (recent apps -> swipe app away to kill it) and reopen it, at which point it'll either automatically resync with the Chromecast, or one has to manually connect to the Chromecast again.

I basically can turn on Spotify on my Chromecast only if I know I won't want to change the volume or the song for a while, because otherwise it's so frustrating I want to throw my phone out the window. If a song is suddenly blasting louder than I want it to be, ha, sucks, it'll take 30 seconds to get control of the volume again! If I hate a song, sucks for me, because I won't be able to change it without having to press 20 buttons. This is awful. (Don't tell me this is an Android experience in general -- Netflix and YouTube work almost flawlessly. There are some hiccups sometimes, but this happens to me *every* time with Spotify.)

Phone: Nexus 6P

App version: 7.9.0.746 arm V7

Android: 7.1.1 (sorry, can't give you the build number).

Chromecasts: 2 different Chromecast Audio, 1 Chromecast (2nd gen)

You're not alone. I have exactly the same problems. Very frustrating especially because this all used to work flawless some time ago.

Hey @hugelgupf and @Katschunga, that doesn’t sound fun!

First up, let’s try a quick reinstallIt might also be worthwhile reinstalling the Google Home app and resetting the Chromecast, as well as the WiFi router.

Let us know how it goes.
