Spotify Connect not shuffling properly

Device: Android device and Windows PC

Operating System Version:

Windows 8 for PC and KitKat for Android

Spotify Version:

 Latest Version 1.0.24.104.g92a22684

Description:

It seems to me that whenever I start a shuffle on my phone and transfer to play on another device (my computer) via Spotify Connect, the same 20-30 songs are shuffled but not the entire playlist. It happens to when I shuffle a playlist folder and when I shuffle a playlist itself. When I shuffle the playlist folder, it chooses a random song that starts with A or a # and the rest of the songs fall in that same category. For playlists, it shuffles the first 30 or so songs that are on the top of the playlist.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this because I don't think there's a solution to this but rather I would like to bring this up to Spotify's attention as this seems to be bug.

To reproduce:

1. Start shuffle of a playlist or playlist folder on phone (or possibly any device)

2. Use Spotify Connect to transfer sound to another device (for me it was PC)

3. You will notice the shuffle will no longer be a true random shuffle but very predictable

Workaround:

The workaround for this is if I start a shuffle on my computer and then control it from another device then the shuffle works fine. It's when you start a shuffle on one device THEN transfer sound via Spotify Connect is where the shuffle goes bad.

Hey there!

Thanks for the heads up. We’ve recently made some improvements to our shuffle algorithm. We’d love to hear your feedback here: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Implemented-Ideas/Implement-an-actual-shuffle-function/idi-p/27607. Also, you can try to change the sorting settings.

Keep on dancing 🙂

Please re-read my post. This is definitley a bug and an issue that needs fixing. It isn't that the shuffle isn't good enough, it literally shuffles the same 50 songs when you transfer over to another device. If you were to try it out for yourself you would see exactly what I am talking about. My playlist has 3,000 songs so it's not just random luck that these songs keep playing.

I have the same problem as you. It literally shuffles the first 50 songs of my playlist.

I experience the same issue / bug as described above.

Hey there!

Unfortunatelly the shuffle knows no more music from my full "my music" list than my grandma could recognize. Even a total random number generator would be better! Really. Please fix it.

Hey guys, if you can leave your comments on this thread instead that'd be great

Only because the link above is actually being looked into and this one was deemed "not an issue" when it clearly is. It's obviously an issue/bug that needs fixing as it kind of defeats the purpose to spotify connect on shuffled playlists.

Status: Not an issue?

This is a well known bug/limitation people have been reporting for a couple of years now.

It is true Spotify shuffles only the first tracks in a playlist when transferring/playing on another device, but the number is 100. Still a limitation that for the most ruins the point of having playlists.

I've experienced this issue before, and it seems to be a bug with Spotify. I don't know if there is a solution to it, but I hope that Spotify can fix it. Thanks for bringing this up! Update found a guide on technoajeet to help with this issue.
