Spotify Connect not working on multiple 3rd party devices

Recently there have been numerous reports that Spotify Connect is not working on 3rd party devices like wireless smart speakers, multiroom speakers, sound systems and receivers.

It's either possible to connect to the speaker using the Spotify Connect picker, but songs cannot be played and playback cannot be controlled, or the speakers appear grayed out and cannot connect at all.

Hello everyone,

We are aware that this issue has been going on for quite some time now. Thanks to your reports and immense help in troubleshooting this, we are happy to say that this should now be fixed. The information provided from members of the community greatly helped the tech teams from Spotify. They worked together with different speaker manufacturers over the last few months in order to pinpoint what was causing this connection issue and were able to sort it out.

If you're still having issues playing music on your sound systems via Spotify Connect, we recommend the following:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your speaker and install them.
  • Reboot your router and re-connect all devices to the network.
  • Alter your router's DNS to 8.8.8.8.

Don't hesitate to reach out again if the issue comes back! We'll do our best to get on it right away, so that you can enjoy your music.

For those of you who have only recently been unable to use Pioneer N50A with spotify.  Try this work around:- Download/open pioneer control app.  Connect to your Pioneer N-50 using you home wifi (ethernet needs to be attached to N50 obvs).  Select spotify.. spotify app should then open and the option to connect to your N50 will no longer be greyed out.  NB connect to N50 without music playing.  I'm using one plus/andriod to connect.

Stopped working today for me on my Hegel H95. Tried with multiple phones, reset the network on the Hegel. Everything is up to date.

Hello,

my Onkyo TXNR646 stopped streaming this week. I had previously set an alternative DNS (64.225.68.86).

I noticed Spotify had posted the 8.8.8.8 DNS advice and this has fixed streaming issues for me.

Thank you.

Unfortunately the 8.8.8.8 fix does not work for me. I’ve cancelled my premium because there is no way in paying for it when I can’t listen on my soundbar.

Checked it again after a few months of using my PlayStation as the main Spotify source and it seems to work like normal again now.

Hi I have the same problem don't see my Hegel H95 in the list of devices. I have tried all of the possible fixes but nothing works.

Hi I Purchased this week a Hegel H95 and I'm not able to connect to it via Spotify connect.

Spend complete day troubleshooting with my ISP and Hegel and today 5 hours with Spotify technical support and we can't get the Hegel H95 AMP to be recognized by the app in the list of devices. After all the troubleshooting done, I know now for sure that this issue is not related to my ISP or the Hegel  H95 AMP.

I hope the developers team comes with a real solution fast as Im paying for a service that does not work.

Special thank you to all the technical support staff that really did their best to help me out with this issue.

I have a Denon Home 550 Soundbar. Everything was working fine until yesterday. Spotify Connect suddenly stops after a few minutes. I have to hit the play button again. I tried resetting the Firmware and it worked fine for a few hours. Then it happened again. Please fix this!
