Spotify Connect not working on multiple 3rd party devices

Recently there have been numerous reports that Spotify Connect is not working on 3rd party devices like wireless smart speakers, multiroom speakers, sound systems and receivers.

It's either possible to connect to the speaker using the Spotify Connect picker, but songs cannot be played and playback cannot be controlled, or the speakers appear grayed out and cannot connect at all.

Hello everyone,

We are aware that this issue has been going on for quite some time now. Thanks to your reports and immense help in troubleshooting this, we are happy to say that this should now be fixed. The information provided from members of the community greatly helped the tech teams from Spotify. They worked together with different speaker manufacturers over the last few months in order to pinpoint what was causing this connection issue and were able to sort it out.

If you're still having issues playing music on your sound systems via Spotify Connect, we recommend the following:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your speaker and install them.
  • Reboot your router and re-connect all devices to the network.
  • Alter your router's DNS to 8.8.8.8.

Don't hesitate to reach out again if the issue comes back! We'll do our best to get on it right away, so that you can enjoy your music.

First of all, Spotify peeps - please remove the Fixed button, because the issue isn't.

Spotify Connect frequently does not connect to any of the following WIFI network devices I have:

- Amazon Echo Dot

- Sonos One smart speaker

- Sonos Beam sound bar

- Audioengine B-Fi music streamer

They are all connected to the home WiFi network and their names all appear in the Spotify Connect menu. But choosing any of them causes the Connecting... message to appear, the little circle to spin, and nothing happens. All have current firmware and work as they should with everything else EXCEPT SPOTIFY CONNECT. I have reinstalled Spotify. No change. Using Google DNS servers. No change.

And then, all of a sudden, for no obvious reason, they sometimes work. But it's about 1 time out of 10.

So no, not fixed.

The ONLY thing now keeping me as a Premium subscriber is my son's laboriously curated playlists that he doesn't want to lose. This issue has been ocurring for over a year now...it's quite extraordinary

So after it has been working for a while again it has now gone back to not being able to connect 🙄 is Spotify ever ever going to fix/address this issue.. They act like the problem doesn’t exist when it clearly does

There’s literally 79 pages of comments here on this forum all stating the same issue taking place and Spotify haven’t tried fixing this for months now. Do they even have a bug team looking into anything as it’s clearly on their end?

I have the exact same issue. I think it's Spotify.

It will play on my Samsung phone, and that's it. It won't play (or even load, the app is a black screen rn) on PC, it might sometimes co-operate and play a few songs on the LG smart TV but won't stream, and it connects to my car but will only play from my phone even though it shows connected! Super annoying! I've reinstalled, restarted, and reset EVERYTHING, no changes.

Excuse me Hnuge23, why have you copied and pasted my exact comment from an old and different thread? Here's a tip, if you're going to do that, don't "like" the comment you're about to (for some reason) steal, I get notifications.

@Alex

This issue is NOT resolved. It is incredibly frustrating that I can't play my liked songs on any device in my home. I mean, this is the app for listening the music you like, after all. We are in 2023 and the issue still persists when your liked songs are > 10,000. I refuse to remove songs or create separate playlists when the issue is on the app. I have tried all solutions here, including reconfiguring router settings and none of them work.

I was sitting at my desktop PC and I was listening to Spotify via Spotify connect -> Sonos Arc. While I was doing that I rebooted my PC. The connection never broke. Once I logged in on my desktop again I could not switch back to my desktop via spotify connect. Its just stuck. And logging out does not work.

After all of this time that my soundbar was unable to connect to Spotify, it has finally connected this morning and I have no idea why. I just don’t get it.
