Spotify Connect not working on multiple 3rd party devices

Recently there have been numerous reports that Spotify Connect is not working on 3rd party devices like wireless smart speakers, multiroom speakers, sound systems and receivers.

It's either possible to connect to the speaker using the Spotify Connect picker, but songs cannot be played and playback cannot be controlled, or the speakers appear grayed out and cannot connect at all.

Hello everyone,

We are aware that this issue has been going on for quite some time now. Thanks to your reports and immense help in troubleshooting this, we are happy to say that this should now be fixed. The information provided from members of the community greatly helped the tech teams from Spotify. They worked together with different speaker manufacturers over the last few months in order to pinpoint what was causing this connection issue and were able to sort it out.

If you're still having issues playing music on your sound systems via Spotify Connect, we recommend the following:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your speaker and install them.
  • Reboot your router and re-connect all devices to the network.
  • Alter your router's DNS to 8.8.8.8.

Don't hesitate to reach out again if the issue comes back! We'll do our best to get on it right away, so that you can enjoy your music.

Also having this issue on two PC's running Spotify for Windows 1.1.94.870.gf994cb0b (Downloaded and installed via the .exe)

I have two other PC's that are running Spotify for Windows 1.1.93.898.g58f5ba0b (Downloaded and installed via Windows Store) that do NOT have this issue.

Songs that I play on the two desktop versions running 1.1.94.870.gf994cb0b don't seem to scrobble to Last.FM or show up in Discord Rich Presence either.

Sorry but this issue is not fixed. Hi, since the latest Android Spotify App update yesterday I'm having the same issue, app is stuck at connecting...I tried with an iPhone decide and it connects instantly. It is clearly a Spotify Issue. Spotify please fix!!!!

I have done everything recommend and the additional info may help:

I have tried with my Mac app and it connects perfectly, so it is clearly the Android App with the latest update.

Since the last app update I can no longer see my device. I’ve factory reset my soundbar again and rebooted my router but still makes no difference.
This is beyond a joke now.

The Spotify live chat confirmed that Spotify is aware of this bug and working on a fix, hopefully fixed soon 🤞🏻

But nothing will happen....

I've had this problem on and off for years but permanently now. It's not just Sonos connection, it won't connect to Chromecast or Alexa devices either. Bored of it, moving on. Clearly won't ever get fixed. Which other music streaming services work well, have lots of content, and will let me cast easily from Android to Sonos?

I'm having trouble with my desktop app that won't connect to either phone or speaker (Google home). The android app works fine with the speaker. I'm not sure if the problem is with connect or if there has been some change in my settings. I have tried troubleshooting and I can't seem to solve it. My desktop is not connected via wifi but that has never been a trouble before. I hope this gets solved soon so I can go back to changing songs and controlling the volume from my computer while listening through the google-device.

I highly recommend Qobuz in terms of sound quality (optional uncompressed
streaming available! booooh spotify!) and curation. Technically you have to
find out and explore. You can report your expierience here, I would
appreciate that!

Just updated two Windows Store versions of Spotify to 1.1.94.870.gf994cb0b and it lets me control media on different devices as expected. This is 100% affect only the downloadable version of Spotify, which is also version 1.1.94.870.gf994cb0b

As stuff has started working again, I will shutdown the DNS server I created...

Please move away from 64.225.68.86, and maybe to google DNS or something else..

Thanks
