Spotify Connect not working on multiple 3rd party devices

Status: Fixed

Recently there have been numerous reports that Spotify Connect is not working on 3rd party devices like wireless smart speakers, multiroom speakers, sound systems and receivers.

It's either possible to connect to the speaker using the Spotify Connect picker, but songs cannot be played and playback cannot be controlled, or the speakers appear grayed out and cannot connect at all.

Hello everyone,

We are aware that this issue has been going on for quite some time now. Thanks to your reports and immense help in troubleshooting this, we are happy to say that this should now be fixed. The information provided from members of the community greatly helped the tech teams from Spotify. They worked together with different speaker manufacturers over the last few months in order to pinpoint what was causing this connection issue and were able to sort it out.

If you're still having issues playing music on your sound systems via Spotify Connect, we recommend the following:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your speaker and install them.
  • Reboot your router and re-connect all devices to the network.
  • Alter your router's DNS to 8.8.8.8.

Don't hesitate to reach out again if the issue comes back! We'll do our best to get on it right away, so that you can enjoy your music.

Could we at least have some technical informations on the changes that have been made? This might help Samsung.. Or let the community in some way work around the issue...

Right now I feel left in the dirt, by two companies who can't be transparent on why our products have stopped working.. I think at least we deserve an explanation..

I have already requested that Samsung open-source their firmware..

Hope that you guys will also do whatever you can to help us (of course within reasons)..

To me this issues seems to be that the format of the stream has changed, all the communication the speakers works.. It's only playback that fails...

Have to agree with MrMEEE, that is a pretty bad explanation and seems like an easy way out for Spotify. You must have something to say about it, why it's not affecting all and why I got it to work again briefly. Of course i'm gonna complain to Samsung as well, but it's a hard road ahead, if everybody just say sorry, there is nothing we can say or do about it.

I’ll give it a week more…I can’t really see myself being a customer at either Spotify or Samsung if customers mean that little to them. Quite unbelievable.

Zigge have you found the right place to address this to Samsung?
Zigge

Allan_AA no not really, think i'm gonna try some support first to see if they all say the same about the problem.

For your information if you hadn't noticed, there is similarly thread here: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Other-Podcasts-Partners-etc/Spotify-won-t-stream-to-Samsung-multiro...

Some people got it to work again, but doesn't seem to continue working

@Ver : It sounds like the speakers aren't compatible with changes that must've happened on the backend / API side of things.

How then, do you explain the intermittent periods of function, that several people (myself included) have reported?

DavidTheScientist

I'm having the exact same problem with Spotify on my X800. YouTube works fine. Re-setting X800, router, phone does nothing. The X800 shows up in the Spotify app, but just hangs when trying to connect. Very frustrating as the X800 is my main way of streaming to my HiFi setup.

There are two distinctly different bugs being discussed in this topic:

1) Spotify not playing music over Spotify Connect due to a new Spotify app
bug
2) Spotify not playing song lists >10,000 songs

My understanding is that the OP's issue is the first topic. I have the same
issue and have provided detailed technical details. The Spotify app is not
sending anything over the AVTransport Service to play a song.

Can someone from Spotify kindly address this issue?

I’m glad I’m not the only one having this issue. This makes it even more likely to me that it is a bug in the Spotify app for the X800 or at Spotify itself, I would say.

I hope that spotify will fix this soon.
