new update has arrived. but, I always get the same error. "It seems like the Spotify Updater wasn't able to start properly. Do you want to wait a bit more?"
Hey everyone,
This is now fixed. If you're still not able to install or update the app, create a new thread and we'll help you from there.
We've seen several of you have reported that Spotify can't update properly and an error message appears. We've merged those threads and we've passed this on to our tech team so they can investigate further.
If this issue occurs for you, you can try the steps below:
Restart your desktop device.
Try running the app as Administrator.
Try a clean reinstall of the app on your desktop device (including making sure that there are no Spotify files on %AppData% after you've uninstalled the app).
If you're using a Windows device when this occurs, try updating from Spotify directly instead of the Windows App store.
Run the app in Safe Mode. You can find out how to launch Safe Mode by searching online according to your device.
If your Windows username contains a special character when this occurs, you can try updating your Windows username. You might need to research further for more info on how to do that on your device.
I've written many posts (for spotify support). But this situation has not been resolved. We do these operations manually every time we update. This is a porterel. Please resolve this issue now. I'm starting to cool down from Spotify.
What i do is run an old installer and then update when this is offered However it means I have to reinstall each time I decide to use Spotify but it has become rather a bore to have to do this Workaround: listen to my cd's I tried all of the solutions proposed but it shouldn't be so difficult to use an application on a relatively recent Windows system! I only bother to reinstall etc (with having to clean out Spotify so it is actually easier) when I want to listen to music that is otherwise unavailable
I tried this and it worked, even though I think it is a terrible solution as I am an amateur linguist and I think diacritics in names are wonderful culturally. It is a shame that Spotify's informatics can't keep up with this!
I did not make a clean install. I simply took out the accent on a name so that Angélica became Angelica on the Windows users account. I then created a users folder Angelica and made a file for Spotify inside App Data, then I ran an older Spotify installer, which made a new installation. I rebooted it opened automatically without crashing. I then updated when the app suggested it.
However, I wonder why this happened as Spotify never had this problem before with diacritics.
Of course we are not expecting from anyone to change their name. However removing an accent from a username can be a temporary work-around. It's easy to do and also easy to change back once we come back with a proper solution.
Thanks for your feedback and patience. We'll get back to you as soon as we have an update.
