My Question or Issue

new update has arrived. but, I always get the same error. "It seems like the Spotify Updater wasn't able to start properly. Do you want to wait a bit more?"

Hey everyone,

This is now fixed. If you're still not able to install or update the app, create a new thread and we'll help you from there.

All the best! 🙂

In case I move out the installer from my user directory to c:\ and run in a command shell (as an administrator) it starts to download the packages but the same message come again...

So the difference is, from my user dir it crashes immediately, from c:\ as admin only after the download process.

I hope it can help in the troubleshooting.

Are you using the normal installer? As I wrote before, even if you move that one to another directory, it still downloads the installation files to the same directory as normal, and the installation crashes.

You need to download the offline installer (found here) and run that from c:\. It installs an older version of Spotify, which then updates to the version 1.0.95.

As @semihcanylmz said, this is not a solution to the faulty update, as Spotify still claims there is a newer version but the update fails. This solves the problem if you have uninstalled Spotify and can't reinstall it because the installer doesn't work. I'm back with the old version I had before but at least now the program works.

The link you included points to the standard download page, the only difference is the language, I can't find full installer here.

I tried to run the standard setup with admin rights from command shell as I thought it will use different environment variables but not.

BUT, finally I did it.

I created a new user name 'test' under windows with password test
I opened a command shell as admin and run
"runas /user:test c:\sporifysetup.exe"
the setup went fine except the install directory which was c:\users\test\AppData\Roaming\Spotify so I simply moved the whole Spotify folder to my own user directory and created a shortcut manually.

So now I have a working fresh Spotify 🙂

Yes, I can confirm the issue caused by "special" character in the destination folder name, in my case "c:\Users\Grátzer Dávid\"

I hope it helps.

Ahh, sorry!! I copied and pasted the wrong link above. I have corrected it in the post above and reposting it here !

Yes, making a new user account will of course always be a solution, but a solution at the users' expence. I can't believe that this is still an issue after way over a month's time and there is still no working update from Spotify. Having to create a second account just to run Spotify because they can't get their act together is simply below any expectations I have for a service I am paying monthly for and have been for severeal years.

This worked for me to re-install, but not for update. If I close the app and try to open it again, I have the same issue 😞

My user name did not have any special characters, so I proceeded with the "uninstall solution". I ended up with no Spotify, because the installer had the same issue. With the offline I recovered the app, but still can't update. Windows 8.

Hey @j2f5_zem-kdj@Geinrendour and @BlueManCa

Thanks for getting in touch!

Could you try to download the app using this offline downloader? Run the installer by right clicking it and choosing 'Run as administrator'.

Should do the trick. Let us know if you have further questions.

Have a nice day.

If you use the link above it installs an old version of spotify. But it is no solution to the updatingproblem.  When you are being offered a newer version of spotify the same message saying that the spotify updater won´t start properly will apear. Have done it this way and still stuck with a much older version 1.0.92...... instead of the present version 1.0.96....... So for heaven sake fix this now spotify. We have had to wait far to long already !

At last !!!!!  Seems like Spotify at last fixed the bug that prevented spotify to update. Today to my surprise spotify updated itself to version 1.0.98.......... without any problem. It´s been a long wait but hopefully the problem is solved.

Thank´s
