Spotify link in Alexa app does not work

My Question or Issue

I can’t work out how to get Alexa linked to my Spotify. Guidance says Alexa app/ settings / music/ link new service, which leads to a Spotify button that doesn’t do anything. Manage Services has Amazon Music and Tune in added ok, but not Spotify.

I’ve seen a few variations over past years on here on how to make this happen, but can’t find one that works. UK premium service, UK address. Someone suggested using Alexa app and About to deregister echo dot, but I can’t see a deregister option there.

For a widely offered service, it surely can’t be this difficult to link the two up. I know I can play via Bluetooth but I wanted the extras this link up offers, including voice control and not tying the sound output on a device other than Alexa up.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.

We've made some changes backstage which should now fix the original issue as reported by users!

You can now use the steps below to link your Spotify + Alexa accounts:

  1. First, make sure that both Spotify and the Amazon Alexa apps are on the latest versions available
  2. It's also a good idea to perform a soft reset/reboot your devices
  3. Then, log in to your Spotify account on a browser, head here and revoke access to Alexa
  4. On the Amazon Alexa app on your mobile device:
    • Tap the three lines menu on the top left > Settings > Music & Podcasts
    • Find Spotify in the list and click Enable to Use
    • In the authorization screen, double check that you're trying to log in with the correct Spotify account and click Agree

If you're having trouble with any of the above, make sure to create a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks again!

Hey there folks,

Thanks for your patience so far!

Our tech teams have done their magic backstage - could you try the steps below and let us know if you can link your Spotify and Amazon accounts with no issues?

  1. First, make sure that both Spotify and the Amazon Alexa apps are on the latest versions available - if there are any available updates make sure to update them first. It's also a good idea performing a soft reset/rebooting your devices.
  2. Log in to your Spotify account on a browser, head here and revoke access to Alexa
  3. On the Amazon Alexa app on your mobile device, tap the three lines menu on the top left > Settings > Music & Podcasts > find Spotify in the list > click Enable to Use > in the authorization screen, double check that you're trying to log in with the correct Spotify account and click Agree

If you're still having troubles after that, please let us know the following so we can pass this along and don't forget to add your +VOTE:

  • Your device
  • The operating system of your device and its version
  • The exact version of the Spotify app you're on
  • The version of the Amazon Alexa app
  • A screenshot of how it looks when you're having troubles

We'll be keeping an eye out for your replies, thanks!

Hello,

I have tried all of the above and despite initially having my account linked to both Alexas in our house, I could not link the other members in my family (with Premium) with their devices to their Alexas.

Now I have revoked access as instructed, I can no longer connect any of our devices to any of the Alexas!  When trying to link new service the Spotify link just shows a blank page.

  • Spotify version 8.5.40.252
  • Alexa app version 2.2.313419
  • Device model iphone XR, iphone 6s
  • OS version 13.3 on all devices

It is driving me mad!

Thanks

I was just fiddling with the Alexa app (3rd gen) and went into "activities" and low and behold I now have been able to enable spotify as my default player -_ simples

I followed these steps and Alexa still responds by saying she doesn't have the skill.  Yet both apps are up to date and both say it's enabled to the correct account.  Help!

I'm going crazy here, I need the help of a kind soul...

I tried everything... when I go and select the Spotify icon to link in Alexa, the screen flashes white for a sec or so, then blue and nothing..

I even changed phone, from LG6 to Samsung 20+ and doesn't make a difference.

Can someone help me out ?

Spotify App version: 8.5.7.601
Alexa App version: 2.2.347119.0
Device model Samsung Galaxy 20+
I uninstalled both apps, restarted my phone and the issue persists.

Thanks in advance for your help !!!

Doesnt work.

This says "fixed" but it is NOT, and in fact, this week, I cannot play Spotify to any of my Echo speaker groups at all, while TuneIn or Amazon Music is able to just fine.  Even if I try triggering playback via the Alexa app on my phone, directing it to one of the speaker groups it starts to try and then fails and the item I clicked on disappears from the top of the recently played list.

This has been an ongoing issue for a while, especially being able to see all available speakers and groups (since I have more than one multi-room music group setup) but this week it's been ENTIRELY BROKEN suddenly and not working when I want to play Spotify to any of my multi-room speaker groups!
