Spotify maxing CPU core

My Question or Issue

High CPU usage is draining my laptop battery and causing it to heat up.

Aditionally, Spotify (1.1.3.259.g8172f63a) becomes non-reponsive when I attempt to quit it and must force quit every time.

Hey all,

This seems to be fixed now. Let us know in the relevant Help Boards if this is still an issue for you :)

Have a nice day!

Hi @Glitched, thanks for writing.

I'd try a clean reinstall of Spotify to see if this fixes the problem:

Let me know if it helps!

Hey, unfortunately, this did not fix the problem or change anything for me. Thanks for trying.

Hey @Glitched,

I have some questions that might clear our path:

Do you happen to have a second external monitor?

Does this high usage happens when you play any specific playlist? If so, is it in a folder playlist?

Do you have any local files in your Spotify?

Have you disabled Hardware Acceleration?

Have you checked if is there an updated Spotify version available?

Thanks!

Status changed to: Under investigation

Hey there,

We're seeing some reports on Spotify using a high percentage of CPU. If you're also experiencing this, make sure to:

  • Reinstall the app
  • Remove all your offline devices from your account page
  • Disable Hardware Acceleration from the app's Settings
  • Turn off crossfade from Settings
  • Set the same volume for all tracks from Settings
  • Try another device with the same account
  • Try another account, such as a friend's, on the same device

If that doesn't help, make sure to add a +Vote, let us know the above, along with the following:

  • Device and OS
  • Spotify version
  • Screenshot of cpu usage and timestamp

All the best!

If it helps, here's the report generated when I have to force quit spotify (it stops responding every time I try to close it)

Any updates @Peter ? Spotify on my laptop is still basically unusable with the 1.1.5 update.
